The Dragon
High atop a mountain,
Deep in the mists of time.
Slept a giant Dragon,
In a Castle built, so fine.
Many came upon their quest,
To slay the Dragons heart.
To put their sword arm to the test,
Kill it, then depart.
None wouldst give a second chance,
Or thought to Dragons plight.
Except this lonely warrior,
Who climbed the hill this night.
"Who disturbs my slumber?"
The Dragon harshly said.

"
Tis I, a Knight who's honor bound,
To see thee Dragon Dead."
"With sword and shield and magic charm,
My King has sent me hence.
I mean to do thee Dragon, harm,
To slay thee is my quest."
The Dragon sighed and softly said,
"Perhaps the time has come.
Mayhap I would be better dead,
You Sir Knight, maybe the one."
"Many Knights have breeched these walls,
With hearts so brave and just.
Wouldst kill me whilst my tale I tell,
For that, they turned to dust."
The Knight he looked in Dragons eyes,
"Thou hast a tale to tell?"

The Dragon taken by surprise, said,

"To listen wouldst serve thee well."
The Knight he pondered on this thought,
Then laid his sword to rest.
To hear the Dragon tell its tale,
To listen, wouldst be best.
"Long ago," the Dragon breathed,
"A witch this Castle cursed.
A darkly magic spell she cast,
Intent to do her worst."
"I was but a Princess then,
So young and oh so fair.
With sky blue eyes, and rosy skin,
And flowing locks of golden hair."
"To a Prince I loved, I was betrothed,
This witch didst love him, and,
In jealous rage and anger,
She cast her spell upon this land."
"My Prince, she turned him into stone,
His statue in the courtyard stands.
And me, she made a Dragon,
The most feared in all the lands."
"To break my spell, a Knight shall come,
Tis written, so I'm told.
A Knight who's heart is pure and just,
In his hands, my fate he holds."
A single tear fell from the Knight,
Onto his trusty blade.

"How canst this spell be broken?
How canst thy life be saved?"
"The Knight he must be brave and true,
Or I shall merely die.
And with his blade, must run me through,"

The Dragon gave a sigh.
"I'm tired of this Dragon's life,
With no Prince by my side."

The Dragon looked upon the Knight,

"From thee, I shall not hide."
The Knight, he knew what must be done,
He ran the Dragon through.
The Dragon fell, as if in death,
Then a light shone bright and blue.
This light it shone, first blue then gold,
Surrounded Dragon slain.
The ground did shake, and thunder roared,
The light, shone bright again.
When time had passed, the brightness dimmed,
The Princess could be seen.
The Knight he held her in his arms,
Love in his eyes didst gleam.
The Princess opened up her eyes,
And looked upon the Knight.
It was her Prince, the one she loved,
And he carried her off, into the night.
