Jatin Belani
Hi, how are you? Good, thanks. Wax my shoes? Sure, 5 Rs for pair. Hey, you know what, I have never gone to school; somebody here asked me what life is? I didnt know what to say, but since then I have been thinking how I can define it.. I guess I am confused, help me Life, as most of us believe is a journey, on a roller-coaster that has speed at times or sharp brakes otherwise, there is a vertical rise sometimes or it can be a steep fall. You never know how you end up traveling this distance, but it is seldom smooth. But what if I wish to have a bump-free ride on the road to complete this journey called life.. Hmmm..it doesnt give us an option, we must learn to live however we are. But who decides how I should live, is there something different in our procurement.. Hmmm...no, but there is something called as society, it tries to impose on us how we ought to live, based on our lineage. Even before we step in this world we get differentiated into rich or poor, high caste or low caste, privileged or unprivileged... Wait, wait, wait...so according to you the reason why I am a boot polisher is because I was born to parents who belonged to so called low caste, poor income group and uneducated section of society. Isnt it unfair? What to say, we are where we are! Pretty true: you are a boot polisher while I am a Software Engineer. Right now both of us are standing on the same Mumbai local station platform but when the train would come I would take it to reach to my office while you would still have to be on this platform for the whole day, waxing peoples shoes, haggling for money. This is what life is, we are meant to live different lives. Sorry, I disagree but I also pity that there is no help in this society for people like me who are poor, born to uneducated parents and for whom sustenance is more important than nurturing big dreams. Dont you think so? ............silence............ I am not as erudite as you, but at-least I can define what I think society is. Isnt a friendly association with others, isnt a symbiotic relationship between different people. Shouldnt people help each other for betterment? Speaking of people, I believe each individual should have a sense of lending a helping hand. I dont mean financial help, but help that can make him socially, politically and economically aware; Help, which can set the sleepy cognitive nerves to some action. What do you think; shouldnt you as an individual try to help me? ............silence............ Ohhh, I think I am taking too much of time in waxing your shoes but I must tell you one thing: I sense that even after 18 years of formal education that you might have had, your silence indicates your hypocrisy. Its good that I never took formal education, I guess I would have never liked the ignominy of turning my back to what I might have learned in my civic sciences class - Pay Back to Society............ Thanks to you all! Jai Hind!!!
Regards
