WEEKLY NEWSLETTER - May 7, 2006

Letter From The Editor   Other Links
Hi All,
Greetings!

It is more than two months since we had our weekly newsletter published. The new web site is being developed at good speed and it would go live soon. In the mean time, we thought of sharing the newsletter in a simple web form. The result of which is what you are reading now. We would continue with this till we launch our new website.

Updates from our teams...

We have had lot many members joining our team from across India and abroad in these two months. Bangalore team did a great job by helping a lost kid (Mudassar) re-unite with his family. Mumbai team took the Pada kids to Juhu beach and also held a painting competition for the kids. The children, sure, had a great time! At Hyderabad we are working on interacting with college students, while at Pune we got the help of Mr.Falanikar, founder of Apale Ghar, in getting contacts of a few doctors to go ahead with our medical camp plans. Recently we had an article about our Chennai team to appear on the weekly "Chennai Plus", the details of which would be shared in the forthcoming week. The US and Canada teams, had a detailed web meeting recently. We have decided to target the Indian communities living here by making use of various forums. As far as team communication is concerned, we have made sure that google Orkut group is active so that we reach more people, as our team communicates only via emails. Overall, we have made good progress, but we have a long way to go in creating awareness and finding more volunteers.

People may have different opinions on the reason behind the protests by Madam Medha Patkar, but whatever it is, we salute her for the means she chose to fight. Ahimsa is the only way to fight for any cause.Elections are to be held for a few states and it is the time for all of us to do our duty by exercising out vote to claim our rights. In case if you are one among the masses who wonder whom to vote for, as all the contestants are "sailing on the same boat", then please read this without fail. Sure you would reach the polling booth after reading this, provided you are not one amongst those lazy masses who only whine.

At DreamIndia, we pray and hope, people elect the right persons to rule, who would really take us towards DreamIndia2020.

Please read more about Pada painting competition and Pada kid's beach fun here

Jai Hind!!!

Pushpa, a neighbors daughter, removed her bangle and put it into my hand.

"Have you obtained your mothers permission?"

"Yes, Sir. It is with her permission that I gave this bangle to you." Girls who give ornaments must not ask their parents to replace them before we have won swaraj. If they have some others, they may wear them; but for some time, they must not ask for new ones to be made."

"I have got one another such bangle with me. I wont ask for a new one. I have given my bangle to you quite willingly."

Madhuri was looking on. She was also discussing something with her mother. She removed the glass bangles and the remaining gold one, and put them both in my hand!

"I accept this glass bangle. But I told you I would not accept your gold bangle even if you offered it. Please, therefore, do not give it. As it is, you have given much."

"So far as I am concerned, I have given it away to you. I do not want it at all. I have given it willingly. Kindly keep it."

Madhuri scored a victory over me. I broke my word and accepted the other bangle. With wrists and ears bare, Madhuri looked more handsome to me any rate. I hugged her to my heart.

Overcome with joy, I offered thanks to God.
