RUN, LITTLE MAN, RUN!
JUNE 10, 2002
(Based on actual events that took place on June 9, 2002)

I'm out and about on an early Sunday afternoon
Yet, it's so boring that I wish all would end soon
Being with my mom at a shoe store is no fun
I'm standing around waiting to see if she'll ever be done
Uh huh...Looking for shoes to choose and for me to pay
It is quite obvious that my money makes her day
Still standing around...That's all I did
All of a sudden, I saw this little kid
Well, this little boy was all happy and crazy
While I stood around just being all lazy
I could tell that kid was up to something
However, at first I thought of it as nothing
The perky little boy sparked interest as he whispered "Hey!"
Without hesitation, I turned to look his way

He placed his pointer finger up to his mouth
What did he say? "Shhhhhhhhhh!"
He was up to no good...That's what I thought
How did I reply? "Shhhhhhhhhh!"

He started running around the small store
The boy had excitement and he wanted even more
He ran to my right where his mother was nearby
He hurried off quickly to the left without saying bye
Uh huh...He was trying to run and hide away from his mother
She shouted at him in a language not English, but another
Spanish was her talking, and I wanted to know what she said
However, she talked too fast...My translation idea was now dead

With lots of giggles, he looked at me again
What did he say? "Shhhhhhhhhh!"
I started to laugh at him...That fool was crazy
I did it along with him "Shhhhhhhhhh!"

Hide and seek was his next game as behind an aisle, he peeked
He didn't want to give himself away, so he also sneaked
What did he say as he looked at me?
"Shhhhhhhhh!" with a big smile that was easy to see

He dashed to the right once again, then went slow<
At the sight of his mother, he had to hurry off and go
One time while running, he suddenly fell
I definitely wanted to laugh...I'm sure he could tell
It took him a while to register what just occurred
He looked confused, but not quite so perturbed
He got back up without any kind of shame
He was sure to have lots of fun all the same

His mom spotted him once again
So, what did he do? Hmmmm...
Run, Little Man, Run!

Running all around the store laughing everywhere
His mother wanted to get him, but she just wouldn't dare
Looking at his antics, I was quietly laughing like a loon
This much needed amusement came not a moment too soon
The kid had a ball, yet he stopped for a little while
He came close to me and gave a smile
I looked at him ridiculously as he was near me
I was easily amused...That was something he could see

Finally, as time sort of flew, it was almost time to go
Did the kid want to stop his fun? The answer was no
The boy went outside while his mother was in the store paying
The amusement commenced as he continued playing

In the store I looked at him wondering his next plan
Even his next action was not an initial idea for the little man
He spotted bushes nearby, and to release, he...*ahem*...let go
The little tinkling he did has shocked me so

He came back in the store like he did nothing
While his mother didn't react before, she was up to something
As they left out of the store, she scolded him good
It looked as if he tried to explain himself, as he should
He thought he got the best of her, but much to his surprise
The mother smacked his arm and regret was in his eyes
The regret was probably short lived since he did have some fun
Yet he probably could have avoided that smack if he thought...
Run, Little Man, Run!

Then again, he would have been in more trouble.
He wouldn't have wanted that now, would he?
