Lunch Hour Poems Reviewed by Dan Hays in Statesman Journal, Sunday, February 1, 2004:

This is a limited-edition chapbook of poetry by Salem's David Barker.  He has several books under his belt, yet he is what is known as an "unsung" poet.  Well, it's time someone started singing about him.

"Lunch Hour Poems" is full of brief explosions of wit and insight.  As in:

'Insurance Agent'

   his pitch is always
   'you're getting older,
   more likely to die
   and
   it's going to cost you.'
   no wonder people
   avoid him."

Barker burrows into the heart of the everyday.  He let us in and makes us see things in a different light.  His use of everyday, simple language makes that language neither of those things, but something electric that both creates and enhances life.

Buy this book while you can (Jackson's Books has it).  It's a limited first edition that, if there is any justice in this world, won't be available for long.
