The Akula (shark)-class heavy cruiser was developed by Kuat Drive Yards, (KDY), at the personal request of the Emperor. He intended for it to be used as a heavy weapons battlewagon that would be cheeper and easier to produce than the infamous Imperial-class Star Destroyers. However, the initial proof-of-concept craft/prototype, was finished only three standard weeks before the Emperor's death at the Battle of Endor..... The prototype with it's chief designers and scientists, fled to the out-of-the-way Kathol Sector and the Imperial reasearch outpost on the planet Forleias... There it orbited for years, forgotten..... Until the rebuilt Empire under the command of Ysanne Isard reconquered the reasearch outpost and got the plans and the prototype Akula-class Heavy Cruiser. Isard sent a copy of the plans to Kuat, where the starship yards began to build more of these new cruisers. Finally, the Empire had a new Heavy Cruiser to replace the old Dreadnaughts.....
