PICKERING'S RICHARD HART BACK TO THIRD SOONER THAN EXPECTED
by Jim Easson
Richard Hart advises that his Champion skip Glenn Howard is doing well after hernia surgery on September 19. Glenn was
originally slated to rejoin his Ontario Champion team for the Masters of Curling in Waterloo that goes November 12 to 16.
Now he hopes to be back in action for the October 10 - 13 BDO Curling Classic which goes at the Oakville Curling Club from
October 10-13, 2008. This year's edition of the Curling Classic is once again an Asham World Curling Tour sanctioned event that is
open to 32 teams in a triple knockout format. Of those 32, eight teams will qualify, competing for a purse of over $60,000 in prize
money.
The Howard team ran a September 26-28, 2008 Fantasy Camp in Guelph, Ontario and it was a rousing success. The participants
had access to some of the world's best curlers. The list of celebrity curlers included Glenn Howard, Richard Hart, Brent Laing, and
Craig Savill plus a special guest celebrity/instructor Jennifer Jones. She was a big hit with the campers. Overall, they had such
positive feedback from the campers and instructors that plans are already underway for one next season. Richard says "The camp
is going to be tough to top, but we're going to try."
The September 16 and 17 open house at Annandale Curling Club was a success once again. They were able to sign up some new
curlers from other clubs and also some brand new curlers. However the club is still looking for curlers of any or no experience. It
seems that registration is a bit down this year all around. Adults only Curling Clinics at Annandale are coming up October 15th and
25th, 2008 . Icemaker Barb Godfrey is back working hard in the club preparing the layers of base ice which have to harden before
the circles are painted for the new season.
