TEAM HOWARD WINS SIXTH WORLD CURLING TOUR EVENT IN A ROW

Team Glenn Howard with Pickering resident Richard Hart at vice, and Brent Laing and Craig Savill on the front end were in Brantford for the SunLife Financial Invitational Classic November 21 to 24. Thirty-two teams competed in the triple knockout playdown and 8 qualified for a share of the $47,000 purse. Team Howard went through the event undefeated and won it and the first place purse of $11,000.

The Howard team now has won all 6 of the Curling Tour Events they have competed in this season. Next on their calendar is a trip to Quebec City December 3 - 7 for The National, the second leg of the men's 2008-09 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series. Team Howard have zone playdowns and a TSN Skins event before Winnipeg hosts the men's third Grand Slam of Curling event, the BDO Classic Canadian Open, from January 21-25, 2009. The 2008-09 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series concludes with the Players' Championship at the Canada Games Arena in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Featuring both a men's and women's draw, the Players' Championship is scheduled to take place from April 14-19, 2009.

Following the conclusion of the season ending Players' Championship, the top men's and women's teams in the Capital One Cup standings will each receive $50,000. The second and third place men's and women's squads will each receive $25,000 and $10,000 respectively. Howard takes the lead in these Capital One Cup standings, having earned 12 points with the Masters of Curling victory in Waterloo November 16.


Next OCA Zones are the Senior Men and Senior Women at Dalewood Golf November 28 to December 1. There are 15 Men's teams competing for two spots to the Regional, and three Annandale competitive curlers are on two of those 15 teams. Warren Leslie is on an Uxbridge team skipped by Greg Timbers with Barry Acton and Kent Cochrane. Alex Bianchi and Mike Trudeau have joined an Oshawa foursome skipped by Brian Suddard with John Brotherhood.
