TWO ANNANDALE JUNIOR TEAMS ADVANCE TO REGIONAL PLAYDOWN

by Jim Easson

Our OCA Pepsi Junior Zone 6 play-downs were held at the Whitby Curling club November 22. Annandale had three teams entered, and two of them now advance to the Regional at the Oshawa Curling Club the November 29 weekend. The Junior Ladies team of Lesley Pyne, Stacey Hogan, Suzanne Miller and Katie Hickey with coach Jennifer McGhee won the A side of the two team draw. The Junior Men's Zone only had three teams in total and one Annandale team advances. The team of Michael Bryson, James McPherson, Sandy Martin and Josh Hall coached by Susannah Moylan won the A side, while the Bantam team entry of Ben Bevan, Chris Avery, Jake McGhee and Carter Adair, coached by Paul Bourque were sidelined after a close game in the B side.

More Annandale junior curlers had success with competitive teams they joined in other zones. Joan Moore in Zone 10 curls with Danielle Loney of Midland on a team which includes Glenn Howard's daughter, and they advance. Annandale's Chantal Lalonde plays with Danielle Inglis of Burlington in Zone 13 on the team which includes ex-Annandale Tracy O'Leary who is now at Laurier University. These players advance to their respective Regionals at Meaford and Burlington November 29. Two teams from each of the 4 Regionals advance to the Ontario Provincial Championship at the Gananoque Curling Club January 7 to 11.

Next OCA Zones are the Senior Men and Senior Women at Dalewood Golf November 28 to December 1. Annandale men will be represented by Carl Vickers with Dave Gaudette, Doug Lawson, and Geoff Peck. There are 15 teams competing for two spots to the Regional. Sandra Thain has a women's team of Barb Luffman, Joan O'Leary and Janet Alexander. The Annandale Women are guaranteed to advance as there are only two Senior Women entries. The Regionals go in Lakefield December 13 and 14.
Lorraine Scanlan with the team of Bev Cairns, Bea O'Regan, and Diane Easson traveled to a one day Bonspiel in Bobcaygeon Saturday November 22. They lost two tight games so did not make it to the prize table, but enjoyed lunch, dinner, and a show.
Annandale is running a Mixed Skins Cash Bonspiel at the club this weekend of November 29 and 30. In a skins game, the team with the hammer has to score 2 or more points, or the other team needs to steal in order to get the skin. As in golf skins, any ends not won carry over until a team meets the win criteria.
