ANNANDALE YOUTH CURLERS WIN MIXED ZONE PLAYDOWNS

Annandale won with both their entries at the five team Junior Mixed Zone playdown held at the Oshawa Curling Club February 14 and 15.  Michael Bryson with the team of Emily Lindsay, Sandy Martin, and Carly Bee with coach John Lindsay won the A side.  Josh Hall teamed up with Spencer Anderson, James McPherson, and Yvonne Lalonde and coach Donna Hall to capture the B side.  Both teams now advance to the Regional in Fenelon Falls March 7 -8.

 

The Bantams won on the Oshawa ice too in the six team playdown.  Laura Arbour, Jake McGhee, with two competitive members and coach Jennifer McGhee for Annandale won the A side of the Bantam Mixed, and Ben Bevan now for Whitby, took the B side.  Both teams now also advance to the Regional in Fenelon Falls March 7 -8.

 

Annandale has two teams entered in the Mixed play downs at Oshawa CC for February 21-22.   Blair Metrakos is skipping the team of Kathleen Johnson, Richard Peach and Chantal Peach.  Tim March has the other entry.  Two of nine teams will advance to the Regional slated for Whitby CC March 7 and 8.

 

Chris Van Huyse skipped an Annandale team of Blair Metrakos, Andrew Klein, and Scott March to victory in the OCA Colts Regional Playdown at East York February 14 -15.  The team now advances to the Ontario final slated for Leaside March 18.  The competition  ends at East York  as there is no National championship.

 

Next at Annandale is the Ladies Olympic Bonspiel February 21st and the event is full.  The teams will play 2 eight end games and use a "skins format".  The team that wins the most "skins" money will win a cash prize and the opportunity to compete in the Melitta Bonspiel of Champions.

 

The 18th annual SPINAL TAP MIXED BONSPIEL, the premier event in the Shoot For A Cure Curling campaign, that previously had raised over $250,000 for spinal injury research, added a further $70,000 on Saturday February 14 at the Thornhill Country Club.  Olympic and world champion curlers donated their time to the cause.  Team Glenn Howard, with Pickering resident Richard Hart at vice, and Brent Laing and Craig Savill appeared, along with Jennifer Jones, Joan McCusker,  Mike Harris, Cathy Overton-Clapham, Sherry Middaugh, and 2-time World Champion Ed "The Wrench" Werenich.
