JUNIOR CURLERS COMPETE FOR TRIP TO SWITZERLAND
by Jim Easson
The Dominion TCA Junior/Bantam Bonspiel runs December 29 and 30 so it will be completed by the time this article is printed.
This event annually awards the first Prize of an all expenses paid trip to Switzerland for the Junior winners. The Annandale Junior
Ladies team of Lesley Pyne, Suzanne Miller, Laura Hickey, and Katie Hickey with coach Jennifer McGhee is eligible. So is the
Junior Men's team of Michael Bryson, James McPherson, Sandy Martin and Josh Hall coached by Susannah Moylan. An
Annandale Bantam team entry of Ben Bevan, Chris Avery, Jake McGhee and Carter Adair, coached by Paul Bourque is entered.
Bantam Event Winners and Runner-Up teams per event receive prizes. Other Annandale curlers will be participating on out of club
teams. Annandale's Chantal Lalonde and Tracy O'Leary will compete with Danielle Inglis of Burlington, and Stacey Hogan will be
on the Laura Crocker team from Scarboro Golf.
The TCA Energizer Men's bonspiel (also known as Canada Life Bonspiel) is one of the world's oldest continuous curling events
and it runs TCA wide January 10 - 17, 2009. Annandale has four teams entered. Arthur McCrorie, Glenn Bull, Dale Patterson, and
Brian Hawke are listed and eligible for the early bird draw. With Hawke in the Senior Event are Jim Easson, Wes Stitt, and Mark
Scanlan, and also in the Senior event Dale Patterson skips the team of Ron Zuber, Dave Walmsley, and Ron Reeve. In the open
event, Glenn Bull has a team of Al Waters, Byron O'Donnell , and Jim Barrett. Arthur McCrorie has an entry in the Open Event, but
says he thinks his team will be withdrawing as 2 members will be away during the event, so if you are interested in participating, give
Arthur a call.
Annandale was closed for the Christmas break, and ice maintenance will be finished, for the curlers to restart Sunday January 4,
2009. The first bonspiel on the club calendar is the Day Ladies Freeze Bonspiel January 21, 2009.
The march for another crack at the Tim Hortons Brier for Team Glenn Howard continues. Howard, with Pickering resident Richard
Hart at vice, and Brent Laing and Craig Savill now advance to the Regional TSC Stores Tankard in Elmira January 3 and 4. There,
eight zone winners will compete in a double knockout that will send two teams to the Provincial finals slated for Woodstock
February 2 - 8. The one winner in Woodstock will represent Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier in Calgary March 7 to 15. TSN has
full coverage of the event this year.
