Buckskinning is more than what meets the eye

"I seen most of it. Colter's Hell and the Seeds-kee-Dee, and the Tetons standing higher'n clouds, and North and South from Nez Perce, to Comanche, but God Almighty, There's nothin richer'n the Upper Missouri.Or purtier. I seen the Great Falls and traveled Maria's River, dodgin the Blackfeet, and makin cold camps and sometimes, thinkin my time was up, and all the time livin wonderful, loose and free's ary animal. Thats some that is. " DICK SUMMERS

Buckskinning is shooting a rifle if only to smell the smoke of blackpowder, and to see it standing heavy, thick and pungent, beside and over you like a battle flag of the religious ritual of reloading, and a shot well placed.
Buckskinning is smelling of the fall season. Not something born on the wind, but something that approaches on a soft fall breeze. Something suggesting the snows of tomorrow, but giving the warmth of summer today. The smell of leaves going brittle and falling, and fruits and nuts maturing. And of the critters going after them, as You watch thru your gun sights, Deer, Squirrels, and other Varmints.
Buckskinning is being out alone, in touch with a half lost trail, with moccasinned soles, hefting a good rifle. It's the air of spring bringing new life to a world weary of snow and cold. A wind carrying the fragrance of rebirth and youth and of promise.
Pivotal to all buckskinning is the gun. It began with shooters wanting to get back to basics. Back to the truth of the stalk and the hunt. Disallussioned by high-tech trajectories and auto-mated ballistics, many turned back to the gun that made America, the muzzleloader.
Buckskinning is touch and feel. The graceful, sating feel of buckskin leather flexing with your muscles. And moccasins, soft. The Earth absorbing your quiet tread, hiding your tracks and caressing the soles of your feet.
Buckskinning is taste, too. Savoring recipes of yore that your taste buds have been long deprived of, like 150 years. Yet, when you taste them, there is familiarity, and recollection.

BUCKSKINNING IS IN THE SOUL AND IN THE HEART!
