The Heroes

Maxim- This is Maxim, monster hunter and main character in the game. He can use some magic(healing and other) but you should use him for mostly fighting.

Selan- This is Selan, mistress of magic and commander of the parclyte army, also as Maxim's wife she will follow you anywhere. Including to Doom Island. Where she succumbs with Maxim.

Guy- This is guy, the fighter of Tanbel. He cannot use magic but is repayed for by his good use of weapons and ip's.

Artea- This is Artea, the elven bowsman. His magic is the strongest in the game and he has some powerful  attacks too.  Although I recommend you use him for magic.
