OBTAINING THE NECESSARY PERMISSION FOR THE USE OF COPYRIGHT TEXTS
Before a theatre company can perform particular texts or use any publication(s) and/or research material(s), it needs to obtain the permission of the copyright owner. A copyrighted work may not be reproduced, copied, distributed or displayed without the consent of the author or person who owns the copyright.
Permission for the use of copyrighted texts will be granted in the form of a licence. The licence will give the holder the exclusive rights to use and/or perform the copyrighted texts, within regulations.
There is no such thing as an International Copyright that will protect and provide permission for use of copyright texts across all countries. However, under the The Copyright Act in Singapore, it is possible to obtain a licence to produce and/or use copyright texts published in other countries other than Singapore.
