Mate is just a kind of check which allows no escape. In exercises below find mate in 1.
Exercise2:White moves and mates. Usually the first check turns out to be a mate.




Look at each mate and consider why none of the escapes mentioned in lesson 3 work
Exercise 3a: Find a double attack for White. Just 1 move. Count how much material is won.
Example: Knight for Queen exchange is a win of 6 pawns (1Queen -- 9pawns, 1 Knight -- 3 pawns)
