"I want them found!" They lost...

"He's looking for us." And they get another chance.

"They are no more than children!" He wants them dead...

"We are ageless." Just like the other Digidestined.

"One boy, five girls." They want to survive...

"We have to split up." To get their revenge.

"Another child died tonight..." The world....

"We have to hide our computers, our rings, and our Digimon." Wants Freedom...

"The Digikids are still on the loose..." But Freedom is now gone.

"Change your name..." They must hide...

"We will search every house if we must!" Or die.

"Change your looks..." The worlds once again depend on them.

"The Digikids stand against Demon..." They are the only Digidestined left...

"We are alone." And they know it.

"Check their backgrounds!" They are called by the world...

"I am no longer Kat, and I can't be Mel..." The Digikids.

"Chase them down!" They call themselves...

"We don't know where each other is going, or their name..." Watchers...

"Thirty-two died today..." Digimon Watchers.

"Start a rebellion, but keep it a secret." The worlds need to protect them...

"They must die!" But how do you protect your leader's enemies...

"We must live!" When anyone could be one of his men...

"Get her!" And they don't trust a soul...

"We'll meet again..." Not even each other.

"Demon has one Digikid..." One battle has been lost...

"We don't know anything..." Bringing on the war...

"Keep her alive, for now." That their enemy believes he's won.

"Don't go after another if they've been caught..." But he doesn't seem to understand...

What it means to win a battle, and leave the war in Fate's hands...

Their pasts are hidden. Demon knows them. He wants their blood. They are known to the world as the Digikids. They want revenge. It's six against one, and Demon's winning...

Digital Runaways
Daiho Iroi
By Katmon =^.^= Ichijouji

A young girl stood in the middle of a deserted street. A small bag hung on her back. Her black clothing told that the girl had lost a loved one to Demon. A small something shimmered around her neck as she stuffed it under her shirt. She looked to be about ten, yet her brain surpassed her looks.

An older woman stepped from her house, running over to the girl. "It's not safe out here, child." She mumbled in Japanese. The girl nodded and allowed herself to be led into the house. A man closed and locked the door behind the two. Then the woman turned to the girl. "I am Daiho Madai. This is my husband, Lenor. What's your name child?"

The girl watched the two adults calmly, but her mind was racing. "Ophelia." She mumbled as the name came to her.

"Is there a family name with that?" Lenor asked, but the question fell on deaf ears.

Marai stepped up to the girl and shook her by the shoulders. "Are you okay, Ophelia-kun? You look like you saw a ghost." It was true, the girl's already pale face had gone white.

She shook her head, as if clearing it. "I don't have a family name. It left me with my family." She said quietly. "I need to lie down."

Madai smiled and led the girl to a room, making her comfortable, and left her there. Then she went to join Lenor in the kitchen. "That poor child, Demon's rule has only caused pain."

"Hai." Lenor agreed, his face drawn in thought. "I don't think Ophelia-kun is telling the whole truth. She may be a Digikid."

"If she is, she can stay. Those six Digikids fight for us, and my baby was a Digikid." Madai said softly.

"What was her name?" Both adults turned to the girl at the door.

"I thought you were asleep!" Lenor cried.

"I'm not one of his spys, Lenor-kun. I'm against him." The child commented softly, making Lenor calm down some.

"Iroi. My daughter's name was Daiho Iroi." Madai said, as if in a dream.

"Iroi, huh. Pretty name. I'll bet she was pretty." The child whispered.

"She was. She was very pretty." The two adults said together. Neither noticed the pain in the young girls eyes or the tear leaving it's trail down her cheek. Maybe it was best they never knew.

The girl nodded and walked back up to her new room. A small blob awaited her. "What's wrong?" The blob asked.

"We're leaving." The girl sat down with paper and something to write with.

Dear Madai-chan & Lenor-chan,
Arigatou, for housing me. I'm afraid I must leave, it's not safe for you or me if I stay. Maybe we'll meet again.

Much Thanks,
Watchers Ophelia
aka ~ Daiho Iroi

Dai stood, stuffing the note in her pocket. "I'll be right back." She mumbled right before she left the room. She walked down the stairs, looking for a place to put her note. She saw a table of family pictures and walked over to it. Then she picked up one of Madai, Lenor, and herself. She stared at it, the smiles almost making her cry.

A noise behind her made her turn around in surprise. Lenor stood there, fists clenched in anger, his face red. "What are you doing?!"

Dai glanced down at the picture. "Gomenasai, Lenor-kun. I was just looking." She said softly, but didn't put the picture back.

"Put back the picture!" He shouted. Madai appeared behind him.

"Nai." Dai said, her voice still soft.

"Why you..." Madai's hand on his shoulder made him stop in mid-sentence.

"What's wrong Ophelia-kun?" Madai asked softly.

The girl bowed, then fled up the stairs, a slip of paper falling to the ground behind her. Madai picked it up and read it. There were tears in her eyes when she handed it to Lenor.

"We will survive!" The voice of Daiho Iroi rang out in the town of her birth. A picture of her parents was held tightly against her chest as the computer sucked her through.

:~*~:

A ten-year-old girl appeared out of nowhere. Her face was hard, her clothing consisted of dark blue jeans, a red t-shirt with a demon on the front, and white sneakers. A black bag hung from her back. The park she stood in was empty except for one girl, who was watching her from behind some trees.

"Who are you?" Ruki's voice floated down to the new arival.

Dai's head shot up in surprise. "Show yourself." She called out, her voice calm.

A girl stepped from the shadows. She wore a baseball style t-shirt with light green sleeves and a yellow collar. A dark blue broken heart figure is placed on the front of her shirt. She wore red wrist bands on her wrists and a heavy belt with metal studs. A pocket was attached to the back of the belt. She wore dark blue jeans that were roled up and had two leather belt-like straps on her right leg. Her shoes had steel-enforced toes that were red and had metal studs on the toe. Her hair was a reddish-brown color and was pulled back into a spiky ponytail with a light green hair tie.Her hair supported light brown streaks in it and it falls over her forehead a little, while two strands of hair stick out on opposite sides of her head. "Here. Now, who are you?" she replied lightly.

"My name won't help you any. Who are you for?"

Ruki's face went blank. "For?"

Dai shook her head, a small smile pulling at her lips. "Whose side are you on, Demon's... Or Digikids'?"

"You've got me confused. Who are these people?"

A Digimon appeared behind Ruki. "You aren't from around here, are you?" The Digimon asked. Ruki threw the Digimon a look.

"Renamon! Dai-chan, That's a Renamon!" The blob Digimon called from Dai's bag.

"Arigatou, Blomon-chan. I'm glad I have you around. Nai Reanmon-kun, I am not from this world. I am, in fact, wondering where this world is." Dai said with a thin smile.

"This is earth. Where are you from, Dai-san?" Ruki stated.

"Tokyo, but a different Tokyo."

"We're in West Shinjuku." She paused. "Other Tokyo?!"

"It's a long story, and this isn't the best place to tell it." Dai paused too. "Are there others like you?"

Ruki smiled as Renamon disappeared. "This way." Blomon hid back in the bag as Ruki jumped down to Dai and lead her down a path. "So, what's your full name?"

"Well, Kat-chan said not to tell, but since we aren't in our world... My name is Daiho Iroi, Dai for short."

"Well, Dai-san, I'm Makino Ruki. I'm a Digimon Tamer. Are you?"

"Sort of. Kat-chan calls use Watchers, but the more technical term is Digidestined."

Ruki stopped and stared at Dai. "Digidestined?! Do you mean like Yagami Hikari, Inoue Miyako, Takenouchi Mimi... Those Digidestined?"

"Are you refering to the original twelve Digidestined?"

"Hai! Do you know them or something?" They started walking again.

"Knew them. I saw them die."

"Die?!" Ruki cried. "Hai." Dai's voice sounded so painful that Ruki looked at her.

"Hey! Ruki-san! Who've you got there?" A voice called from above them.

The two girls looked up at the two boys above them. One wore a black t-shirt with an orange vest with a collar on it, brown pants, and white cuffs like Ruki's. His shoes were gray and yellow. The other wore a white t-shirt with a blue, hooded jacket over it, gray bike shorts, yellow rimmed goggles, and yellow cuffs like the other two wore. His shoes were white and green.

"This is Dai-san." Ruki called back as they continued to climb to the boys. "Dai-san, meet my two friends, and partner Tamers, Lee Jenrya and Matsuda Takato. Dai-san is a Tamer, of sorts."

"Of sorts?" Jenrya inquired.

Dai grinned as they reached the boys. Blomon crawled onto her shoulder. "In my world, we're called Digidestined."

"Other world? Digidestined? Do you mean as in Taichi-san and Daisuke-san?" Takato asked, unbelieving.

"Hai. I'm from Taichi-san and Daisuke-san's world." Dai explained.

"No way! Do you know them?" Takakto asked.

"Something like that." Dai mumbled uncomfortaly.

"Way cool! Can you play the card game?" Takato continued.

"Card game?"

"In this world, Digimon is a TV show. There is also a card game." Jenrya explained.

"Oh. It would be nice to learn how to play this card game." Dai said softly.

"It's what we use when we battle." Ruki said. "It will be helpful for you to learn it. You can stay at my house, and I'll get you some cards, not to mention teach it to you."

"Okay with me. Blomon-chan?" Dai asked.

"Kat-chan said to gain allies. If that's what we're doing, then sure!" Blomon said cheerfully.

The others grinned as Ruki grabbed Dai's arm. "Then let's set you up at my place. See you guys later!"

"See ya!" The two boys called as Ruki dragged Dai away.

:~*~:
The two girls were up in Ruki's room. No one was home.

"Oh, Dai-san, I should warn you. My parents are divorced and I live with my mom. She should be here any time now."

"That's okay, I understand. My friends, Kat-chan and Karai-chan, had divorced families. Karai-chan's little brother, Rou-chan, lived with his dad in Kyoto. Karai-chan lived with her mom in Tokyo. Kat-chan and her big brother, Drac-chan, lived with their mom in America. Their dad, James-chan, was stuck in the Digital World. Kat-chan's twin sister, Mel-chan, was stuck in the World of Darkness, with no memory of her past." Dai said softly.

"Who lived?" Ruki asked.

"Out of the twelve original Digidestined, and my twelve, six survived. Kat-chan, Mel-chan, Traina-chan, Karai-chan, Rou-chan, and myself." Dai said sadly.

"Oh. Is Kat-san your leader or something?"

"She's the best at making decisions."

"Oh. I'm sure we'll help you all we can." Ruki whispered.

Dai looked up at Ruki, a smile pulling at her lips. "Arigatou, Ruki-kun. You really are a great help."

"Sure. I was wondering, how old are you?"

Dai shrugged. "I've travled through time, so I'm not really sure. I know that doesn't make much sense, but..."

"That okay. I think I understand." The door slammed downstairs. "My mom's home. Stay here." Dai nodded and Ruki went to meet her mom downstairs.

Koban wa, Ruki-chan." Her mother gave her a hug. "How was your day?"

"Fine. I made a new friend."

"Mmhum..."

"Her name is Dai-san. I was wondering if she could stay with us for a while."

"Why?"

"She doesn't have a place to stay."

"Why not?"

"Her parents are dead."

"Tell you want, she can stay for dinner. I'll decided after that."

"Arigatou!" Ruki cried with a smile. She ran back to her room. "You can stay for dinner!"

Dai sat working on her computer. "Cool. I'm kinda hungry."

"What are you doing?"

"Trying to place Kat-chan. She said not to contact her, but I can't do any harm right now. Demon can't reach me."

"Oh. Any way I can help?"

Dai looked up thoughtfully. "I doubt it."

"Okay. Dinner should be done soon."

Dai smiled looked back at her computer. "Arigatou, Ruki-kun."

Ruki smiled and walked back down the stairs. "What are we having?"

"Sushi. Why aren't you playing with your friend?"

"She's working on something."

"Oh. You both know I'm going to have to inrole her in school, if she stays."

"I don't think she'll need to go to school..." Ruki tried to object.

"We'll see." Ruki nodded as the buzzer went off. "Now, call Dai-kun down."

Ruki ran upstairs again. "Dinner."

Dai looked up. "Smells good. Let's go."

They started down the stairs. "Did you reach your friend?"

"Nai, not yet. I've got an idea where she is, though."

"Good. I hope you reach her."

Dai smiled as they reached the landing. "I do too." Ruki lead Dai to the dinning room. Dai bowed to Ruki's mother when she saw her. "Koban wa, Makino-sama. I am Daiho Iroi, but my friends call me Dai." Dai said softly.

Mrs. Makino smiled and motioned for the two to sit. They did. "I hope you like sushi, Dai-kun."

"Arigatou. I do. I've not had it in a long time though." The girl said softly.

"Oh well. That means you can find out how good mom's is first hand." Ruki said with a grin.

Dai and Mrs. Makino laughed and the three got to eating.

:~*~:

It was after dinner, Dai was upstairs, working, while the other two were washing dishes.

"So, what do you think of Dai-san?" Ruki asked her mother.

"She's polite, and smart for her age. She can stay, and we'll see about school." Her mother replied.

"Arigatou. I'm sure she thanks you too." Ruki said happily.

"YES!!" Dai's voice came from upstairs.

Ruki looked up towards her room. "I wonder what she found?" She mumbled aloud as she ran upstairs.

She found Dai, typing fierously at her hand held computer. She looked up. "Koban wa! I found her! She is in a different world too!"

"Neat! What does she say?"

"Uhmm..." She stared at her D-terminal. "Iroi-chan, I know you are excited to have found me, and know that Demon will have a harder time reaching us, but I need to know, have you found help yet? We have a small problem at home. Katrania."

Dai frowned. Ruki looked at her. "What's wrong?"

"Something big. Kat-chan hasn't called me Iroi-chan, ever. Anyway, she doesn't sign little letters like this with her full name." Dai started typing again. The reply came back quickly and Dai read it aloud. "Iroi-chan, I'm glad you've found some help. We'll need it, and soon. The small problem, something happened to Melanie-chan. I'm scared, okay. You know me, I don't get scared. I need your help. We need to get in contact with the others. Work on it for me and have them e-mail me to check in. Much luck, Katrania."

Ruki looked at Dai. "That bad?"

Dai looked at the girl. "Call your friends and update them. After that, I'll need your help to find my other friends and to learn how to play this card game."

"Okay. Tell ya what. Let's go out to get you some of the cards for the game. I'll have my friends meet us there if they can."

"Then let's go!" The two girls ran down the stairs.

"Where are you two off to in such a rush?" Mrs. Makino asked.

"Mom, I need to call some friends. Then, can we go to the card shop? Dai-san wants to learn how to play the card game, but she wants her own cards." Ruki said, grabbing the phone and dialing a phone number.

"Do you two need any money?"

Dai grinned and turned to go back upstairs. "I should have some upstairs. Let me go check." She ran up the stairs and grabbed her computer. "Gennai-sama said you'd know what I'd need. Now I need money." She put her ring to her computer screen and thought of money.

She closed her eyes when the bright light engulfed her and opened them to find money in her hands that was equal to fifty dollars in American money. She laughed and put the money in a purse that appeared on her belt. She picked up her bag, Blomon in it, and ran down the stairs. "I have enough money! Don't worry." She looked at Ruki as she hung up the phone.

Ruki grinned. "Then let's get out of here! We'll be back soon, mom!" Ruki cried over her shoulder right before the door slammed shut behind the two girls.

They ran down the street and met the two boys at the store. Ruki grinned and pointed out the cards. "I don't know how much money you have..." Dai showed her. "How did you get that much?"

"Long story. I have it. What all can I get with it?" Dai asked quickly.

The three grinned. Takato put an arm around her shoulders and led her to the card rack. "Let me see. That'll get you... Two starters, three boosters, and some gum. You can get four things of gum and we can each have one."

Dai laughed. "You're lucky I can waste this money. I'll buy each of you a pack of gum. Now I need help picking out the cards."

"What cards do you want?"

"Do I have a choice?"

"With the starters, hai. With the boosters, not as much of one, but it's basically the same."

"Uhmm... I don't know. What are some good ones?"

"First, what are the evolutions of your Digimon?"

"Oh! Mushmon, V-dramon, Areo V-dramon, and Mugen Dramon."

"Uhmm..." Takato started. "Get Version 5 and Booster 11."

The other two nodded. Ruki grinned. "And an Utimate Battle Deck-Neo Virus Busters and Neo Dark Masters, and Booster 2."

Jenrya smiled. "Booster 9. You pick 'em."

Dai picked the two starters and looked at the booster sets she had been told to take. "Blomon, tell me when I've my hand on the right one." She put her hand out and closed her eyes, placing a hand on each card in the section until a soft sound came from her bag. Then she picked up the cards and put them in her other hand.

When she finished they walked up to the front and she let the others pick out gum. She placed it all before the man at the desk. "Is this all, miss?"

Dai looked up, a small grin forming on her face. "It's all I can afford." She laughed. The other three laughed behind her.

"Well, kid." The guy held out his hand. "Money?"

Dai grinned and put the money in his hand. "Here ya go."

"Arigatou, kid." He rang her up, gave her the change, and gave her her stuff. "See ya, kids."

"Sayonara!" They all called together and waved as they left the store.

They wandered to the park while Dai looked over her new cards, easily knowing most of them. "Areo V-dramon, Mushmon, Mugen Dramon, Tailmon, V-dramon, Woodmon, Deramon, Pinocchimon, a Tag, and the Crest of Purity in Booster 2." She said, opening her Booster 9.

"Have you seen all of those in real life?" Takato asked.

Dai thought for a second. "Pinocchimon and Deramon, I've not seen before."

"Oh. What ya got in the next one?"

"Another Mugen Dramon, different this time, Xuanmon, Shining Evolution, Super Charger, Betamon, Max Charger, Bomber Nanimon, Renamon, Kyuubimon..." She stared at the last card and acted as if to throw it to the ground when Ruki stopped her.

"What's wrong with this card?" Takato asked.

"It's... Him! I don't know why fate stuck me with His card."

"Demon..." Ruki hissed, getting a good look at the card.

Dai nodded. "Give me that card." The others sent her questioning looks. "I'm gonna rip it up."

"Nai! Don't do that!" Takato cried.

"Why not?" Dai demanded.

Takato turned to Ruki. "When we battle, we card slash. Here's where your homework starts."

"Don't you mean vocabulary?" Dai asked dryly.

The others smiled. "That too." Ruki continued. "When we slash these cards, our Digimon gain an ability, attack, or a power boost, depending on the card. You can gain Demon's attacks with this card, if you play it right."

"I don't have one of your Digivices. It's a different model."

The three traded glances. Jenrya nodded. "We need to get you a card reader, Dai-san."

"How is that gonna help me?"

"It's how we got our D-Arcs, plus the blue card." Jenrya turned to the others. "How did we get the blue cards?" The others shrugged. "Let's just worry about the card reader, for now." Takato whispered. "Those things are expensive."

Dai grinned. "I've got the money."

The three stared at her. "How?" Ruki asked.

"Tell you what, let's get to the hang-out spot and I'll explain how I'm getting the money." The others nodded and they hurried up.

"Takatomon!" Guilmon cried and rushed out to hug Takato.

"So, how do you get the money?" Jenrya asked after they had finished the hellos.

Dai pulled a little box from her pocket and closed her eyes in concetration. The box expanded until it was back to it's normal size of the laptop. The others hissed in surprise when Dai opened it and put it on the floor, placing a ring on her finger to the screen. "This is how. My laptop. Gennai-sama gave it to me not that long ago."

"Oh. Do you think you could get yourself a D-Arc with that thing?" Jenrya asked.

"Good question. Let's see." Dai pulled out her D-3 and held it to the screen. A bright light flashed and she was holding two Digivices. Her old one and a new one like the D-Arcs of the Tamers. "Wow. That's how you travel too?" Takato hissed softly.

"Hai. It's what's keeping me alive, for now. I can take it anywhere, it doesn't matter whether I have a pocket or not, the computer fits itself to be best suited to my needs." She looked at her cards. "I should open the rest of these."

"Hai! I wanna see what you've got!" Takato said.

Dai grinned and opened the next booster. "Qinglongmon, Areo Wing, Battle Tomahawk, Anubimon, Frogmon, Archelomon, Impmon, Cyber Dramon, Taomon, and Karatenmon." She grinned as she unwrapped one of the starter decks. "Omegamon, two different Agumons, two different Gabumons, Patamon, two different Greymon, two different Garurumons, two different Angemons, Metal Greymon, Were Garurumon, Holy Angemon, two different War Greymons, two different Metal Garurumons, Seraphimon, Imperial Dramon Fighter Mode, two different V-mons, two different Wormmons, Plotmon, Magnamon, two different XV-mons, two different Stingmons, Tailmon, Paildramon, Dino Beemon, Angewomon, Imperial Dramon, Holy Dramon, Apocalymon, three different Keramons, two different Kokuwamons, two different Candmons, two different Chrysalimons, two different Mecha Norimons, Soulmon, two different Infermons, Giga Dramon, Phantomon, Diablomon, Mugen Dramon, Piemon, Belial Vamdemon, two different Pico Devimons, two different Toy Agumons, two different Betamons, two different Devimons, two different Deltamon Guardromon, Vamdemon, Metal Greymon, Metal Tyranomon, Vemon Vamdemon, Offense Plug-in A, Defense Plug-in C, High Speed Plug-in B, three different D-3s, Tag, Digimental of Miracles, numerous % Wins, two different 'Fuse Into Ultimate Digimon!', two different 'Change Up!', Digital Gate, Nature Spirits, Dark Area, and Nightmare Soldiers." Dai grinned.

"What about the other one?" Takato asked.

Dai sighed and unwrapped the next one. She took another long breath. "That's a lot of cards. Where'll I keep 'em?" The others looked at the laptop. Dai grinned and placed the stack of cards to the screen.

A bright light shimmered and they saw a small draw-string bag, cards in it. Dai placed it on the belt she still wore, right next to the once again full money bag. "So, you gonna teach me how to play the game now, or are we going home?"

"Oh! The reason I called you two here! I forgot!" Ruki suddenly cried. The boys smiled. "Dai needs to get home as soon as possible. If we're going with her, we'd better be ready at any time."

"Why? What's up at your home?" Jenrya asked.

"Mel-chan's in trouble. I got in contact with Kat-chan earlier. All you'll need are your cards and Digimon pals. We'll call you if anything else comes up. The computer will provide anything else." Dai explained.

The others nodded. "Well, I've got school tomorrow. See ya!" Takato called over his shoulder and ran off. Jenrya followed him with a wave to the girls.

Ruki led the way home. "Mom says you'll have to go to school tomorrow."

Dai shrugged. "I'll live. I won't be staying at any school for very long, anyway. And, I'm no certain age, so they'll have a hard time deciding where to put me."

"Mom will probably enrole you in the public school, where Takato-san and Jenrya-san go. I suggest you choose whatever grade my mom says she'll enrole you in. We'll ask when we get home."

Dai nodded. "That'll do, for now..."
