Vinca and Sterling set off through the thick forest in search of the night witch, Gladyc, who hopefully had some knowledge to Vinca's questions. "Do you have any idea where we're going?" Vinca questioned. "I don't know about you, but I know where I'm goin'" replied Sterling. "Hey, I'm only following you." Sterling suddenly came to an abrupt halt. Vinca nearly toppled over the pup. "Shhh! Listen!" Sterling said under his breath, lying belly to the ground. "Do you here that? Listen! There it is again!" "What do you think it could be?" Vinca whispered nervously. "I, I don't know." The sound proceeded closer and closer until it reached the hedge in front of the foal and wolf. Then it stopped. The forest suddenly seemed quiet and tranquil, like the whole world had stopped moving. Sterling and Vinca dared not to move a muscle. A shape suddenly flew over the hedge and landed nose to nose with Vinca. It was a huge creature with a deep coat of night and gleaming copper eyes. It moved around its two acquaintances with great grace, no sound coming from its feet. Its eyes studied Vinca and Sterling as it circled them and its muscles, so powerful, glided over the bones in its legs as it moved. "Stay back!" Sterling yelled at the creature, but it continued to circle them, eyes locked on only them. "What does it want?" cried Vinca. Then the creature suddenly stopped. It sat down right in front of Vinca and Sterling, erect and with eyes knowing. The thing creature turned his gaze directly on Vinca and spoke. "You are Vinca, the last free unicorn of your clan by Rapyd, correct?" Its voice was masculine and smooth. It sent a ripple of warmth down Vinca's spine. Vinca shivered. "Yes. yes, that is me." "Come. The Luna awaits," the creature said, and with that it pranced off into one direction. "Well, come on," shoved Sterling. When the pair finally caught up to the creature, Vinca also caught her breath. "Who is Luna, Sterling?" "How should I know? Why don't you ask our weird guide, since he's taking us there," replied Sterling. But Vinca shrugged it off. She really didn't want to bother the creature, even though she knew it was only out of her own fear. The creature slowed and stopped on a ledge over looking a waterfall, and waited for the two straggling young to catch up. He didn't wait long, though. With a great leap, he seemed to fly to the chaos of water below. Vinca and Sterling stopped and looked over the ledge, trying to spot him, but the mist above the water was too thick. They looked at each other. Then taking one last suck of air, they lunged off the ledge, falling to the white rage of water below.
