A bright blue butterfly landed daintily on a wildflower's leaf, unmoving. A spindly-legged unicorn foal watched intently a few feet away. Her mane of soft orange hair fluttered in the wind. The white pearly horn on to of her head glittered brightly, even through the clouds. With urge to spring in her muscles, she pounced on the butterfly. She missed though, and the disturbed insect escaped into the air. The unicorn was not very happy about letting her victim escape and began leaping into the air with frustration after the butterfly. But the beautiful butterfly lifted up into the breeze and lightly drifted away. Upset, the unicorn plopped onto the ground and moped with an expression of loneliness and disappointment. Her mother, not too far away, spotted her, even amongst the tall grasses, because of her horn, and whinnied softly to her. "Vinca," she called. Vinca slowly arose and plodded her hooves upon the ground as she sulkingly advanced towards her mother. "Why don't you go and play with Frolyck and Clover?" she asked. Vinca heaved a heavy sigh. They don't like me very much, mum," she replied sadly. "Even the butterflies won't play with me." "Oh, Vinca," sighed her mother. "Your such a shy little unicorn. You need to learn to be bold, not meek as a deer." "But mum, how can I possibly like that when I ain't got any friends," Vinca questioned. "Just be yourself, sweet and good. Now run off and play," said Vinca's mother, and nudged her foal gently away. Vinca's mother was a beautiful unicorn. Her eyes were an emerald green and her coat was a soft brown and her mane was of flowing sky blue. Her name was Hazel, and she and her daughter belonged to a small herd of unicorns in Mythopia. The herd had lived peacefully in the meadow since early spring, when the last of the frost fairies left for the north until next winter. Now it was summer, and the warm seasonal rains were moving in. The herd consisted of one male leader, Rapyd, who was a strong and wise stallion, had a handsome blue coat with a white mane. Together he and several female unicorns formed a herd. Wyndy was a beautiful, but proud mare, and she considered herself next in leadership behind Rapyd. She had a son named Frolyck. Moonbeam was a mysterious and quiet unicorn who usually kept to herself. Dust was an old mare who was extremely wise and respected among the unicorns. Bluelily was a graceful and talkative unicorn, and her daughter was named Clover. The other unicorns of the herd were Starlyt, Ginger, Fyrn, and SylverStar. Vinca pranced amongst the soft grasses, searching the meadow for Frolyck and Clover. She then spotted a small pearly horn sticking out of the thick grasses. Carefully and quietly, she formed her pouncing position. Suddenly, Vinca was knocked down hard on the ground, and her wind was sucked out of her. "Ha, ha! We got you!" cried Frolyck hysterically. "You're hopeless, Vinca," said Clover. "Yeah, how are you ever going to protect yourself from the pink gorillas?" laughed Frolyck. "Pink gorillas?" Vinca looked fearfully and questionably at Frolyck. "Yeah the pink gorillas. They carry around these sharp sticks and have fur at the bottom of their faces and say weird stuff that can turn you inside out," replied Clover. "Turn you inside out?" Vinca asked, scared out of her coat. "Yep, then they take your horn away," said Frolyck, with a sly smile.
