Spoof - Chapter 11

Ebony's eyes went wide when she felt the sharp rocks of the mountain crushing her side.  She let go of Spoof's neck and howled in pain.  Spoof took advantage of her distraction and pushed himself off and away from her.  Ebony started sliding down the mountain's side and quickly put her wings into action.  She slowly lowered herself to the ground, staring blankly in front of her the whole time.  Spoof clamped himself onto the mountain above her, his muscles ready to spring and fly away any moment.

Ebony reached the ground and stood there for a moment.  Spoof's blood dripped from her mouth and she looked at her lost baby.  She gently nudged Tala's body with her snout and closed her eyes.  Then she lay down next to her child and looked dead herself.

Spoof let go of the mountain and glided down to the ground.  Kynder and Safyr refused to look at him, and kept their gazes on their mother.  Then Kynder took a tentative step forward and lay her head down on her mother's side.  Safyr approached and snuggled between them.  Their mother opened her eyes and looked at Spoof.  He saw that the anger had left her, but the pain remained.

They stared at each other for several minutes.  Then Spoof lowered his head in defeat and turned and walked away.
