There were fire breathing dragons which lit the sky with their flames, unicorns that pranced about the meadows and forests, and gryphons that proudly soared the blue skies. But one of the most magnificent of these creatures were the pegasi. Heavenly streaming was its mane as it so gracefully glided through the sky. One of these pegasi, the lovely Clouddancer, became deeply fond of a handsome pegasus stallion, Thundrum, who loved Clouddancer just as much. It just so happened that the pegasi pair lived in the crater of a volcano at the edge of the magical land of Mythopia. The crater itself flousished with tall trees and was abundant of other creatures as well, not to mention a safe domain from the outside world. But at this time, the crater itself was soon not to be as safe, for the volcano was stirring from its long sleep. This was a very unfortunate time for Clouddancer, for she was to bear a foal at any time. She could not fly from the crater, because she was so heavy with the foal, and her wings could not support the weight. All the other animals quickly fled the soon to awaken volcano, but Clouddancer collapsed before even nearing the edge of the crater. She was too weak and was going into labor. Thundrum, being a devoted mate, remained at his love's side. Lava spurted from cracks of the crator and splashed onto the vegetation below. Ashes flew into the air and blotted out the sun. The volcano had now awakened from its long slumber. Clouddancer then gave birth to her foal, and protected the foal from the hot liquids that were seeping out of the crater by wrapping it in her feathery wings. Thundrum was covering his mate as well. Suddenly, a burst of boiling lava over swept the pegasus family. There was nothing left of Clouddancer or of Thumdrum, but out of the lava surged a small red creature. With a tail of fire and wings of vapory feathers, the flame figure floated into the sky. And there she roamed, the first pyro pegasus, who had been saved from the burning liquid. Skyfire had been spared by something more burning than hot lava: her mother and father's love.
