We stayed in the rock desert instead of going through the plains or woods, since we would be easier to spot and catch there. Every day, the four of us with wings practiced a little flying. We would fly low of course, and circle back for Stardust. Our wings were getting stronger, but Moonbreeze still couldn't really fly. This distressed us and we pushed him to try harder, until finally, he could fly a reasonable distance without getting too tired. I didn't find out until later that pegasi don't fly until they're full-grown. Moonbreeze and Stardust seemed to know this, but they never mentioned it to us. We were very careful and only saw the humans once. We were moving along quickly, looking for a safe place to spend the night. Suddenly Stardust stopped and turned his full attention to something up ahead. We all stopped, too and focused our attention to where he was looking. Slowly, I made out the sounds of feet shuffling and a fire crackling. The wind turned and brought the smells of a human camp to us. I motioned to my brother, who was the next oldest after me, that he was to take the others around the camp. I wanted a closer look. After many protests from my four companions, they left. I crouched into a postion used for hunting and crept towards the camp. Once I was close enough to hear individual voices and sounds, I saw a high rock overlooking the camp that a non-winged being could never reach. I crept back into the shadows and flew onto the rock. I crouched quickly and peeked my head over the ledge to look. It was terrible.
