I am Jesca and I have lived here, by myself, for almost a year now, since I was nineteen. I found this place a couple of years ago, when my mother asked me to look for a place to keep our new runners. Since the cave was bigger than our old house, she decided we would move here. We lived here for a year and a half before she met someone and got married. She asked if I would come with her but I like my privacy. So I have lived here ever since.
I visit now and then, but enough of the young men find me attractive enough for the other girls to not like me. I am not beautiful, but boys have said that my brown hair and green eyes are sort of pretty.
This is my first entry in a new journal, and I am still a little flustered from yesterday so I will write the entry number at the bottom for today. Tomorrow I am going to Dawn Sisters Weyr to get used the life of a dragonrider. That also means my mom will have to take care of the runners.
day 1
I have been so busy learning what it's like to be a dragonrider I haven't had time for anything else, even writing. The eggs should hatch shortly and we'll see if I am going to be one of the lucky ones. There is a queen egg and quite a few others, including one almost as large as the queen egg. No one knows quite what to make of that one. Some think it's a bronze and others think it won't hatch. I don't know who I agree with.

Ihave been at the weyr for almost a week now. Yesterday, I went to the old weyr and on the beach, I found firelizard eggs. I took one and out hatched an adorable blue. I named him Leo. When I got back to the new weyr, I found out that they had Just found a clutch there too. That's one of the eggs rolled away from the others and as I went to put it back, it hatched. I named her Aria, after a friend who had hair the same color as this gold's hide.
I am glad I came to the weyr. At first I thought I would have a hard time, being around so many people, but I like being part of this family. Here I fit in. I am not the shortest girl but at five foot three I am definitely not the tallest either.
Serzona brought me to Falas this morning and introduced me to the Weyrleaders. They told me to look around and talk to the headwoman about a place to stay. After I did that, I went exploring. I followed a sign leading to the F.G.P.C. and found a place where they genetically alter the firelizards, and occasionally the dragons, to come up with very rare and unusual colors. While I was there, I thought I'd try to get a rare firelizard. The egg I picked hatched a beautiful white firelizard. I named him Eire. Now I just have to decide which clutch to sign up for.
