Whirlpool Internship

Whirlpool Corporation Electronic Design Center

Summer Internship 2000, 2001

'

In my first internship with Whirlpool, I worked mainly as a software designer. I wrote a Visual Basic program, in which postscript (.ps) files could easily be converted to .pdf files. I later converted assembly code for the digital display on a washer to "C" code, and altered software to conform to corporate standards. I also did product testing, including final debugging for the Calypso washer (shown).

In my second internship with Whirlpool, I was a member of the India Design Team. There I worked mainly with the Swift and Chandni Indian washers. I was involved with identifying some of the final circuit flaws on the Swift washers before they went into production, and I flowcharted the Swift's software on the computer, using Visio software. When I began working on the India team, the Chandni washer was in the beginning stages of development. I worked with Veribest design tools, changing the circuit board schematics as new improvements were made. I also tested prototypes, and analyzed worst-case circuit scenarios to make sure that the Chandni washer would operate within acceptable parameters. I had the opportunity to work with many aspects of project management, including daily coordination of operations with the engineers in India. To facilitate this, I prepared Gant charts, project schedules, and planned design reviews.
