Letter to the (Future?) President:
What about me?

You claim to see America as a melting pot,
To see everyone,
Regardless of race or income.
But as you're looking at America,
You don't see me.

You see Blacks and Hispanics,
The biggest
minorities in the country,
And you want them to succeed.
You want them to cut their own niche
In the wilderness of American society
As your ancestors did centuries ago.
You voted for affirmative action,
And you brag about it
As though you're a better person.
You want to empower
them,
To put the hammer in their hands
While you hold the nail.
They build themselves up (with your help)
While I'm shot down.
Why put them before me?
Why are they more important?
Why do I have to work harder to get less?

You see Rich people, and Poor.
I see a reversed Robin Hood -
Take money from those who need it,
Give it to those who have it.
You say you'll change all that,
Reverse the reversal.
You'll make wealth pay for povertoy.
But none of this helps me.
I have enough,
But I could use more.
Where do I get my share?
What do I have to do
To get people to see me?
To get you to see me.

What about me?

I'm not Black or Hispanic.
I'm not Rich, but I'm not Poor.
I'm just me -
A white middle-class American
Looking to you for answers.

What about me?
What can you do
For
me?
