Back to Main
lost (and found)
a single star, wrapped in the dark blanket of the sky
twinkling on and off
waiting for the telescopic eye to swing around at the right moment
so i will be remembered in the dusty annals of some crumbling library
but for now i'm just another disregarded speck of light

one leaf, veins traced burnt orange over a field of sunset red
meandering along as if on another's wings
soaring into the cool wind as it envelops and caresses me
and diving headlong into a canvas of autumn color
to be raked up and bagged with the rest of fall's forgotten treasures

a child, trembling beneath a clothes rack to get away from the unfamiliar faces
hearing the echoes of alien laughs as i huddle in my corner
my hands come up to hide my face from the feared strangers
i count to twenty thinking "if i can't see them, they can't see me"
but i'm peeking, spreading my fingers a fraction of an inch so no one will
     notice
even though it doesn't matter because i've already broken my own rule
i'm screaming and yelling and waving my arms inside to get her attention

this time i want to be found
