Growing Up
My life is a lone tree on a grassy knoll.
Every day, I see the world glide by on its satin shoes.
My childhood was full of a mother's love.
I had fantasies and dreams; I still do.
At one time, I thought myself awkward, not wanted. But now I have seen grace and
   beauty; they are in me.
I hear poetry and laughter, music to my ears.
I know of courage and love, of things lost, never to be found.
And I have lost, friends, enemies, love and hate alike.
Now I look for myself while my heart wanders, never empty, yet never full.
