You've seen it posted periodically on every message board where Dylan is discussed;
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only choose 3 Dylan CDs/boots, which would they be? Well, instead of adding to another meaningless thread (I remember the days where we used to worry about bandwidth), I am just going to write a fun essay on it!
OK, so somehow, and less horrific than Lord of the Flies or Cast Away, I end up stranded on a desert island. Perhaps, since it is my imagination, there are some Fedex packages there. One of them is from BMG (now I don't know if BMG uses Fedex normally, but in this....alright enough explanation....just go with it)...ok now back to my fantasy already in progress...anyway, one of them is this package from someplace with CDs in it. I quickly convert the (insert current popular artist here) CDs into some functional utilitatian object, but there are some discs that I safely set aside from the direct sunlight! They are ironically, my top choices for the Bob Dylan discs I would choose to have if I were stranded on a desert island! They are:
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Bringing It All Back Home
Saved
Oh Mercy
"Love and Theft"
Hey! There is also another package that catches my eyes! It is from a Dylan trader who for some reason was sending his CD-Rs via Fedex! Oh well, my gain! There are some bootlegs in the package! Oh, and what joy! They are my top choices for Bob Dylan bootlegs that I would have chosen to have if I were stranded on a desert island! They are:
All Hallows Eve & More
Cowboy Angel Blues (had to get something from the 70's!)
Born Again Music
Ring Them Bells
Columbus 11/10/01 (My first Dylan show!)
After the elation of finding the discs I suddenly feel very depressed! How am I going to listen to my discs! What's this...two packages that I overlooked...HEY, one has a self-powered generator with everything that a generator needs to run until I get rescued, and....cooool, a lifetime supply of AA batteries. The other package surprises me too! It has a Boombox with a CD player, a portable CD player with good headphones and a car adaptor for it. I use the car adaptor in helping to secure my shelter, but I quickly pop in some discs and jam out...ahhhh, this is the life! Now maybe I can work on an essay with a little more substance! If just one of these Fedex packages has a laptop in it with wireless Internet!!!
