| Something was wrong. T'Loki turned her thoughts inward but none of them would focus. 'You are allowing yourself to be distracted,' she mentally scolded herself and tried again to meditate. Again her thoughts randomized and she sighed a little, allowing that small display of emotion here in private. 'I can not focus, is there something wrong? Or rather, is there something on my mind?' The young vulcan was barely 24 standard years old, having a genetic line that was something out of nightmares. She was half vulcan, half werewolf. Her mother had been vulcan, loving a human with the transformation and in so, passed such on to their daughter. For all her intelligence, she had to control her emotions with the utmost care, fearing that she would get violent and hurt someone. And perhaps that was the worst curse of all. 'Why are you thinking of such things?' T'Loki wondered. 'As if you do not think of them enough already. You are a Starfleet cadet, you must act like one.' She started to settle back into her meditations before the door chimmed. "Come," she said simply, brushing back strands of straight black hair. Spock stood at the door frame for an instant before stepping in. "I am sorry if I have distrubed your meditations," he said in a low voice. "I can return another time." Bowing her head and resisting the urge to sigh again, T'Loki stood in her white meditation robes, folding her hands inside the sleeves. "No, Commander. My mind seems unwilling to focus today," she murmered. "Is there something I can do for you?" She gestured at a chair, placed there by the matience crew and her mentor inclined his head, sitting. "As Dr. McCoy says, we all have 'one of those days'," Spock mused, quirking an eyebrow slightly. "Is something on your mind?" "I do not know. My thoughts will not focus. They randomize everytime I try. It is...distressing." T'Loki felt somewhat comfortable talking to her teacher. It was Spock who saw the potiental in the tiny Vulcan and guided her through the Academy. Spock who got her the posting on the Enterprise. And perhaps Spock who understood the best because he was half human himself. "What have you tried?" he questioned and T'Loki ran through all the meditation techniques she had tried in the last four hours, including the ones that were taught to her by the Vulcan sitting in front of her. Spock nodded, dark brown eyes giving the only clue that he was worried about his student. "I see...I think you might want to come with me to Sickbay, to see Dr. McCoy," he said evenly and looked at her with a gaze that made the request an order. She nodded and went to change out her robes and into her blue science uniform. 'What is wrong? I wonder why Spock needs me to come to Sickbay? Surely it can not be anything serious...' "Spock, I'm being serious," Dr. McCoy said for the fourth time and Spock continued to regaurd him with a calm gaze. "She's got it, there's no mistake." "Doctor, you forget that she is female," the science officer pointed out evenly but in his mind, he knew it was true. 'It was a possiblity but I never thought...' McCoy walked over and turned on a moniter, showing T'Loki's vital signs and brain waves. "Look you stubborn green blooded bastard, this is the Ensign's readings..." He changed them to show Spock's readings from 2 years ago. "These are yours. They are identical. I'm telling you, she's going through Pon Farr!" Spock looked at the screen, blinking. His student had long been sent to her quaters for her saftey. 'She could hurt someone, with her ability to change. She is going to become extremely violent in the next few days. I worry for her.' "Hey, look, don't try to tell me that you're not worried about her," McCoy said hitching a hip on the table. "I am too. We're, at best, a week from Vulcan and in four days she's going to die. Does she have a...husband to be?" "No. Her parents never arranged for one because of her heritage," he said, thinking. "I know there is nothing you can do but thank you." The Doctor blinked, surprised by the statement. "You are welcome. Now whacha gonna do about her?" "I...do not know." "You're telling me, that Ensign T'Loki, our resident werewolf/vulcan, is going to go through Pon Farr and you don't know what you're going to do?" Kirk looked at him, frowning slightly. "We're at best--" "A week from Vulcan and she will be dead in four days, I understand Jim," Spock said, looking at the captain seated across from him inside his quaters. "But I am...to a loss as how to tell her or what to do." Kirk took a sip of brandy and thought for a moment. "Tell her...the truth." "I can not tell a lie." "No, no, I'm saying just tell her; she'd know you were trying to sugar coat it," Kirk slid his gaze over to one of his paintings. "As to what to do, well..." Spock frowned ever so slightly. "You are not suggesting--" The captain cut him off with a raised hand. "Look, don't get me wrong, I know she's your student and she looks up to you but...it has to be a vulcan to do this. And unless you have a crew roster I don't, there aren't any besides you and her," Kirk looked at his friend, sensing the fact he was uncomfortable with the thought. 'Hell I would be too...the thought of doing that to one of my students, even one...' "I...understand," Spock said in a low voice, his own gaze never flinching. "I just wish there was another way." "Believe me, I do too." Next |
