| I traveled through the portal that my grandfather had opened with Will In an instant, we left everything behind and spiraled through time and space as we know it. Lives, wars, civilizations...they all flew past me, inside me in and then suddenly... Landing on the ground, I rolled, tucking my wings in to prevent them from getting hurt. Will was spit out beside me but landed face first, smudging his pristine white fur. He sat up and growled but looked at me before glancing behind me and up. "Hey, Tasha, where is this place?" he asked. I looked around and blinked. The wolf's eye were better than any human being's; I could even see what looked like ants crawling on the ground about thirty feet away. It was the dead of night wherever we were and trees that stood well over one hundred feet tall surrounded us. We had landed in a clearing that was almost a half a mile wide but I could sense there was a larger field just over the ridge to the south. A small wood cabin lay in the clearing and the lights were on inside. Looking up, I searched for a star or anything I could recognize but I saw something that made my eats flatten against my head in confusion: none of the stars that I knew of were up there. In fact, there was galaxies, star clusters, and quasars in the night sky, all up close when the should be billions if not trillions of light years away. "Tasha, what's wrong?" Will asked looking at me with concern, helping pull me to my feet. I gulped. "Those aren't supposed to be here." Pointing at the sky, I swished my tail. "That means that we're not on Earth anymore." "You are right, my child," a voice suddenly said. I turned and it was my grandfather, just stepping out of the dissipating portal. "Then where are we?" Will asked quietly. "Come," my elder beckoned. He began to walk towards the cabin. I tuned and looked at Will. Will looked at me. "What do we do?" "We have only one choice: see what he has to say," I reply. Nodding, the older boy and I began to walk towards the house. |
