| I walked towards the door, Will standing protectively at my side and peered closer. "See a doorbell anywhere?" I asked lightly and my friend smirked. "Not really, maybe we should just leave a message and a fruit basket," he answered. "Yes, I will just pull one right out of my---hey, look," I pointed. Handprints adorned either side of the door and seemed to be just the right size for each of us. Will placed his hand in but nothing happened and I shook my head. "Einstein, it takes both us," I smiled and put my hand in the space that was in front of me. The rock that was in front of us slid open into the ground and we jumped back, ready for anything that came out but only darkness greeted us. "Come on, let's go," I said and started towards the tunnel that led under the ground. "Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" Will muttered before running down the steps and after me. It seemed like forever that we jogged down steps but finally we reached an open cavern with a high vaulted ceiling. The walls glistened just like the onyx on the outside of the cave and torches hung in key places, bouncing gold light back and forward and giving the appearance the walls themselves were on fire. At the far end there was another door, just as thick and large as the first one but my attention was drawn to the strange markings that covered the walls it self. "Hey look at these, " I gestured and Will squinted to see. Pictures were drawn to depict what looked like the history of the WolfAngels along with the names and the time they died. I read a few Native American names before-- "Alexander the Great?!" I yelped and looked at the picture to see a WolfAngel clad in the bronze armor of the greatest general of all time. "Hey, Cleopatra is over here too!" Will said walking away to the other side of the room. "Mark Anthony, Julies Caesar..." "Nebuchanezzar, King Arthur, Joan of Arc..." "Genghis Kahn, Empress Woo, Queen Elizabeth..." "Mary's Queen of Scots and Orange, Roosevelt...Hitler?!" I looked again to see if I read right and blinked a few times. "But wasn't he just a little on the bad side?" Will kept reading and shrugged. "Genghis Kahn wouldn't exactly win 'Man of the Year' either," he said softly. "There seems to be a nice balance between good and bad WolfAngels." He stood at the door and motioned for me to come over. "The last WolfAngels were the Kennedy's believe it or not. It seems to me that they had the power to change history without changing into their forms. I mean you didn't see Hitler with wings did you?" Shrugging, I thought for a moment. "None after the last Native American WolfAngel changed form. They had the power too but they didn't. It might have been for their own good, considering how Man's ideas were changing..." "But if that's the case, why did we change?" Will asked sighing and I kept reading. "It's just a theory," I answered. "Not a solution. Maybe no threat this big has happened during their time." "I hope not." I kept looking up towards the door and I saw the faint hints of writing. "What is it?" Will blinked, peering with me but I shook my head. "It's a poem or rather a prophecy." Shaking his head, my friend squinted. "What does it say?" "The Two from the Sky, "Shall vanquish the one from the Brimstone, "The Key each of them holds, "Deep Within Their Hearts. "But if All Combine in the Hand of Evil, "Darkness shall rule The Land." Will winced and shook his head. "Not exactly Maya Angelo," he muttered. I stifled a laugh and pushed my bangs out of my face to search for a way to open the door. "Look another hand print," I mumbled and placed my hand in but nothing happened. "You try." Will tried but with no better luck. "And there aren't any other prints around the door..." Thinking, I bit my lip and narrowed my eyes before I jumped. "I've got it! Will, when I put my hand in here, put yours on top of it, ok?" "Ok..." my older friend said and placed his hand over mine as it settled in the contours of the stone. 'Man, I hope this works...' I barely had time to think before light appeared around the seam of the door and intensified. "Get down!" Will exclaimed and shoved me to the ground, shielding me with his body as the door ground open slowly, stone against stone. White light poured over us and dust was kicked up as a gust of wind blew past us. A heartbeat of stillness passed before I protested my section leader lying on top of me. "Mmph....MMMpmh!" Will tensed before standing and helping me to my feet. "Sorry, I just didn't know what was going to be in there," he said sheepishly, tucking his hair behind his ears to hide a blush. "No problem, thank you," I smiled and dusted myself off before stepping closer to the newly opened door. A white linen curtain hung in the frame but I could still detect shapes moving about in what looked like sunlight. "Let's go," I said but I felt a tug on my arm. "What? Are you crazy?" Will asked ridiculously, green eyes widening. I rolled my eyes. "Obviously. We can't come this far to be afraid of what ever is in there," I said in a low voice. "I don't want to go in alone but I will if I have to." "No, I promised you," he sighed and let go my arm. "And I'm not one to breach a contract." Smiling, I took his hand and pulled back the curtain slowly... |
