Notes for Margaret Ann "Maggie" Hanshew:
"An exact location for the burial and place of death for Margaret Ann Cooper, has never been ascertained.  Her date of death came from the Dix Family ledger in which all the birth and death dates were logged but, no places for the events were entered.  Because the dates have checked out as being accurate, I am comfortable with the date of death for her being correct. A wide search was conducted for her, her husband and her known daughter Laura. I had no luck in locating this family.  Below, is a summary of records checked, and any conclusions I might have about her location.  It saddens me to think that as time passes and offical records are lost, that the exact location may never be known." --Michael Von Goebel, Hanshew researcher

Notes for James Adam Hanshew:
(Oct  1933) His obituary reads:
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Butte M. E. Church for James Hanshew who passed away at his home in Butte last Thursday morning.
Rev. O. E. Richardson of Bassett, former pastor of the Butte church, officiated with Rev. Sumner Williams assisting.  Internment was made in the Butte Cemetery.  James Adam Hanshew was born in Bland County, Virginia on April 8, 1864 and passed away at his home October 26, 1933, at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 18 days.  His father died when the boy was but 12 years of age.  A short time before his father's death, the lad had been injured in a fall and later went to Wythe County, Virginia to live with an uncle, where he obtained better medical aid.  When he was twenty one years old, he came to Madison County, Nebraska near Battle Creek.  A year later he was married to Miss Margaret Busick, and to this union four children were born, Carrie, Bessie Frances, John Troy, and James Irl, three of whom died
at a very young age.  In about a year after their marriage they moved to Cherry County, there they spent two years before returning to Madison County.  They spent six years more in Madison County before coming to Boyd County in 1897, taking a homestead on a farm ten miles West of Butte, near the Twin Buttes.  Here they made their home until February, 1930, when they moved to Butte, which was him hom until his death.  At the age of 30, he was converted and united with the Methodist Church, living a consecrated Christian life and was a regular attendant at church services until about a year ago since which time his failing health prevented him from getting about.  His death marks the passing of another pioneer.  He was a loving and devoted husband and father and a kind and helpful neighbor, always ready to do his part n every good cause.  He will greatly be missed by all who knew him.  His patience during his long illiness was remarkable.  He bore his affliction without complaint, always thoughtful of his wife and all who assisted with his care.  Mr. Hanshew is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Stone of North Bend, George Laughrey of Tilden, who made his home with them for several years, and five grandchildren, Opal, Darrel, Neva June, and Guyla Stone, and Eugene Laughrey, also two sisters Mrs. James McFarlane of Fremont, and
Mrs. Laura Rakes of Los Angeles, one brother Daniel of Heppner, Oregon, and a number of other more distant relatives and a host of friends.  Out of town relatives who were in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Stone and children of North Bend,
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Childs, Mr. and Mrs. George Laughrey and Ed Hanshew of Tilden, Mr. and Mrs. Shipley of Battle Creek,  Mrs. C. W. Carr of Meadow Grove
(sister of Mrs. Hanshew) and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Atwood of Carter.
