The Burning Times

The burning times were a time of sorrow. Many women, men and children were killed at the stake, arrested, tortured only because they looked different, or widows of wealth, a woman owning land, anything that made you a little different than everyone else you could be considered a witch. Sometimes entire towns were taken out. No one know how many people had to die a needless death. It is said that the count is around 9 million people. This turned out to be profitable for church and public officals as all land and property was taken from the accused and part of the possessions were given to the accuser (a reward) and the remainder to the church.

It is sad to say to this day pagans still aren't accepted, even though a law in 1985 was passed making paganism a offical religion. I hate to say but I can't even go some where wearing my pentagram without getting some type of look. Why just the other day I was out with my friend (a pagan too) in her car, with a blessed be bumper sticker, and when we finished shopping and were heading back to the car. Written in the back window of her car someone wrote jesus. Now why do people have to do that? Can't they just accept people for the person they are? Doesn't the bible say love thy neighbor? I'm not christian but I follow that law. We have to STOP the intolerance, visit the Witchvox and The Burning Times On-line and if your being harassed because of your religion, these sites may be able to help you. Just one other note there is a beautiul documentary film on women today, who talk about their spirituality. The film is called The Burning Times and I have seen it on PBS or you may ask your video store if they carry it. Lorenna McKennitt does some of the sound track!!
