Trixie glided into the room, the dress of her masquerade costume flowing like a living part of her and the wings looking almost real. She glanced around the room and sighed with nervousness. She was a pixie in a room full a dragons, not that that would normally make her uneasy, but these weren't the Guardian Dragons that her kind were such great friends with. These were black dragons of Urune. They had been exiled from the home dragonworld of K'gwen thousands of years ago and had forgotten that K'gwen, or even fairies, had ever existed. The dragons in this room had forgotten about magic for that matter and only remembered the basic shape shifting that allowed so many dragons on one little planet. She could only imagine what they would do if they found out that creatures stilled lived that possesses great inner magic, creatures such as herself. Emilio walked up to her then and offered his arm and a smile. Trixie took his arm and smiled back, Emilio may not have been a real dragon, but he was still a Guardian and even though she was his bodyguard his presence made her feel so much safer. They strolled into the room together, a red headed fire fey and a lycanthrope prince. This was defiantly going to be one hell of a night, with the adventure promising to go on after the party.
Princess Ebony of Urune had been born with a strange gift, she could see magic. Magic was visible to her by a strange sixth sense. The ability was not uncommon among dragons of any color besides black, but Ebony didn't know this, hell she didn'teven know that K'gwen still existed. She thought that in was some ancient city of her own world and had no knowledge that there was a home world three times the size of her little Planet of Urune. The sixth sense called outto her now and she looked to the origin, the door to the ball chamber ofthe castle. She saw two costumed people step in, one was dressed as a pixie and the other was dressed as a Guardian from the legends. The sight of the man instantly made her blood boil. Ebony was the Master Guardian of Urune and was over all in charge with matters of the law. She had no trouble recognizing the Blue Eyed Dragon, Emilio Rugmen. He was a know thief that kept slipping through the cracks and she couldn't believe he had the nerve to come to her little brothers birthday party, dressed as an ancient Guardian no less. The last thing the crown prince needs is a thief in the castle on his special day. She decided that she herself would keep an eye on this one.
"Did you really get the okay from the Masters to were your uniform tonight?" Trixie asked gain. She knew that Emilio was mischievous enough to do it without permission and she didn't want to see him get in anymore trouble, besides Master Abigail hated his guts just because his father was a conqueror andan old enemy. She couldn't believe that either her or Master Josh would ever let Emilio do anything fun.
"Jake said it was okay." he replied with a little shrug.
"Jake!" she hollered then looked around to see if any one had heard while Emilio laughed. he gave him a stern look and continued in a softer voice. "Jake'snot even a Master. He's only in the High Command. How can your own equal give you the okay to revile the Guardians to a world that as forgotten them?"
"Jake used to be a Master when he thought his mom was dead, and she's one now."he replied in his own defense. "Besides I couldn't ask her, she hates my father, and me for lying to get into the Guardians. You would think she would be grateful for the time I saved Jake's life."
"It was your evil half sister that had gotten ya'll in that trouble to begin with."
"Felicia wouldn't have hurt him. She's not evil she's just the heir to the dark fairies throne." He shot back trying to defend his sister.
"Are you two arguing over weather to steal my brother now are later?" Emilio and Trixie turned to see Princess Ebony glaring at them. Trixie's face went white, a great contrast to her fiery red hair, and Emilio just gave the princess a huge smile.
"Hello Master Ebony. Nice night isn't it?" He asked still smiling. An action that caused Trixie to look at him in disbelief and go even more ashen. Which the princess took as the sign of a guilty conscience.
"Don'tcall me Master, you are not a real Guardian." Ebony shot at him. He only smiled bigger wondering what she would do if she ever found out the truth."I know your up to something Rugmen and I'm not going to let you get awaywith it, you or your little friend."
"Her name's Trixie." He replied with that same smile and a polite tone, which he knew was getting to her. "Besides, Master Ebony, I've heard that one before, and I haven't been caught yet."
"There's a first time for everything, Thief." And with that the princess turned onher heels and stormed off.
"You can relax now Trixie, the big, bad, black dragon is gone. Hey, try saying that three times real fast."
"That, that, that." Trixie replied attempting humor. "We're gonna get found out."
"No we're not." He said trying to comfort her, "How she gonna know?. She thinks we're thieves remember."
"We are thieves." She reminded him. "There's something about her, she can tell that we're different."
"How she's just a black dragon, she has no inner magic."
"Maybe she does just like Maggie. You remember Maggie don't you?"
"Of Course I do, she works for me, I just left her in the tunnels. She and her husband Whanye will be here latter."
"How are they going to get in, they can't shmooze their way past the guards withfairy magic like we did." She asked, her imagination running, as a pixie's would. Suddenly her face went white again. "They're not gonna..."
"I told them to use the tunnel passage in the castle." He finished for her.
"K'gwen built those tunnels, they lead to teleportation chambers that could geta user back to K'gwen. If anyone finds out about them it could mean big trouble. The masters aren't going to like this" She scolded.
"I know all about the tunnels, I live in them." Emilio replied losing his smile."I need Maggie and Whanye here to help with finding the Book of Kalas.Too many lives are at stake if the other side gets the book to worry about the wrath of the Masters of K'gwen. You're supposed to be on my side for this." He said with a little lost, hurt puppy look. For the second time that night Trixie smiled.
"I'm always on your side Emilio. Your father would kill me if betrayed you." They both laughed at that. "What was her name again?" she asked getting serious.
"Blaze." He informed her. "I met her a couple of times, she's helped me out when you or Tara weren't there. The soothe seer said she either has it or knows where it is, but for some reason, wouldn't hand it over if we asked she'sprobably protecting it so we have to obtain it by other means."
"Blaze huh? You have a natural attraction with fire so it makes sense." She stated. "Where is Tara anyway. You don't want to call her for this one?" She asked about the other bodyguard of his, a firebird.
"A natural attraction with fire? You mean like it's attracted to me? How come you never told me before?" Emilio asked with a puzzled look.
"You never asked." Trixie replied with a shrug. Emilio nodded accepting the answer, one not uncommon of a fairy, all fun and game. Trixie was the most level headed one he knew and she was more so tonight, probably because the Chaos Spell out of the Book of Kalas had destroyed the fairy home world, scattering the tribes across the universe, what was left of them anyway. That was five thousand years ago and long before the young fire fairy was born, but the thought of such a powerful spell troubled her anyway.
"Tara will be Here latter when we really need her." Emilio said. "She can't stayin our plane long and I will need her if things get hairy."
"Your the son of Armand the Bear, haft fox and haft human, and your a Guardian of K'gwen. The Dark Alliance hates you and wants you dead. The good guys think your bad and the bad guys don't like you because your such a threat to them. The Master Guardian of the Black Dragons is breathing down our necks because she thinks yo ur a thief and we have to find Blaze and the Book of Kalas while dodging her and the Alliance with out either discoveringwhat we really are. Of course things are going to get hairy?"
"Well the Dark Alliance already knows I'm a Guardian. Besides it's going to beso much fun?" He replied letting his excitement show.
To be continued....
