There are two types of worlds, the world on land, and the world in the deep blue of the oceans. I am Dykstra from the kingdom of Telis, near the Celestial Reef. The ocean is my home, betrayal is life, and this is my story.
I was something of a revolutionist when I was younger. I guess you could have called me a rebel. I disagreed with the king, enough to put together a small band of warriors to seriously irritate him. It wasn't my original plan to overthrow the government; I never desired to be a political leader. I just wanted the voice of the people to be heard. I had caught the eye of the youngest princess and planned to use it to my advantage. The future of my people rested on my actions.
The Day was bright and the sun hurt my eyes. I lifted a hand to shield my eyes and cursed that I had to come to the surface. The human shaman had been explaining the way a magical headband worked.
"So I just get her to put it on, and her inner most ambitions will surface? She won't be afraid to act against her father anymore?"
The shaman laughed. I should have realized he was no good by the way those humans with him cringed at his laugh. I was too caught up in my own problems. I wasn't really asking how to use the headband, I was repeating to commit it to memory, and to find the courage to use Princess Ayden. The princess and I had gotten very close, and I thought she was the kindest person I knew. I felt bad about playing on her jealousy over her older sister with her father. My the time I was buying the headband from the humans, I had decided that King Joffe had to go, and I couldn't think of a better person to take the place of the overbearing and harsh king, then Princess Ayden.
"Dykstra, are you sure you want to do this? I'm not so sure we can trust these humans, and if Princess Ayden ever finds out, she'll loose her trust in you." My trusted friend Oras tried to voice his concern. He spoke in our native tongue to keep the humans from understanding us.
"Oras is right, Dykstra. This could be a bad idea. If something goes wrong and we're caught. "
"Don't worry, my friends. Nothing can go wrong, I have it all planed out. As long as the two of you remain by my side we won't loose."
The three of us headed back to the waves crashing on the beach and then into the cool, familiar ocean we call home. Ayden and the others were waiting for us in a hidden cave near the reef. I had told Ayden the headband was a gift of love for her and had made certain the humans made it to her liking. She swam out to greet me with a hug.
