Asian Arowana is the most famous and expensive tropical freshwater fish in the world. They can be cost from $1000-$23000 US for the young (Prices are list by Dragon Fish Industry - Singapore) and it may come up to $100,000 US for an adult. The price can also depend on other factor e.g (In US, because the limited import, Asian arowana price is ussually 4-6 times higher than it cost in Singapore). Due to it high price and high demand of aquarist hobby. Asian Arowana is list as an endangered and protedcted species and is prohibited from trade worldwide by the convention In trade In Endangered Species Of Plora And Fauma (CITES).
Fortunately, There are several fish farms in Southest Asia have been successful at breeding this amazing fish. Captive breed F2 Asian Arowana is now available. The import of captive breed arowana is now permitted (very limited). In order to keeptrack of this fish, captive breed Asian Arowana has to be tag with a microchip identification indicating spices, and wich fish farm that it came from. Each fish also must has a certificated of captived breed from a fish farm approved by CITES. |
