Claisant

Located on the southeast coast, Claisant is the least agressive of the countries in Amduray, never having attempted an invasion against one of its neighbors- Claisant always stays on the defensive, happy to sell to both sides in a conflict. This has earned Claisant the reputation of being filled with greedy, heartless merchants- which isn't far from the truth. The people of Claisant are usually farmers, herders, or merchants, with the military being relatively small but well trained. Much of Claisant is vast, fertile farming land where cities are spread few and far between. Due to this, Claisant's military is nearly fully composed of calvary, to quickly travel from place to place. There are few aspects that are common about Claisant's populace.

Claisant is home to a vast number of races, and was the first country to fully welcome the Vargauches with open arms. Many Otubudak find the coastlines of Claisant a perfect place to live, and the otter-kin have flocked to it in vast numbers. Many elves used to live in Claisant until the Forest of Dryads became cursed, turning into the Forest of Despair in LS 3822. It wasn't until nearly a year later that the curse was removed, allowing the elves to move back in. Few have, and their limited numbers are now scattered across Amduray.

Claisant tries to remain neutral in the nation-to-nation wars, dislike anything that interrupts trade. Claisant has open trade with all nations, even the hobgoblins to the west. When called to war, Claisant first attempts to use its vast aramada to intimidate enemies into submission (which isn't much use against the landlocked Lovoth), only drafting an army if necessary. Claisant has a small land army at peace time, consisting mostly of the local guards of villages and cities, supported by highly trained, elite calvary units. The calvary units server mostly as "firefighters," rushing from location to location wherever necessary.

Heads of Government

Prince Calarin Solstra is the current leader of Claisant. Only 26 years old, the Prince is the last of the royal bloodline. His actions, characteristically foolish and self-serving, have brought him much scorn from the nobles and citizens of the country. Solstra has made many crucial mistakes due to inexperience, but has slowly been learning to be a proper ruler. Not much about the Price is known to the public at large, as he's chosen to keep his personal life private.

Admiral Velar is the current commander of Claisant's armada, and acting commander of Claisant's military forces. Velar is an older noble who has fought in countless battles and helped cut down on piracy along Claisant's cost. Velar has been the top critical of Price Solstra's politics, and has fixed what would appear to be an unwinnable situation several times. A growing sentiment in Claisant is that Solstra should no longer be leading, and Velar should take over.
