alternative country
I'm adding this page because of my increasing interest in bands which some have labeled as Alternative Country. My interest began when I bought Son Volt's first album "Trace." I couldn't stop listening to it and it led me back into an appreciation for country music with songs like "Windfall." Until recently I didn't know the circumstances behind the band that led me to other great music. The albums listed below are not all alt. country albums. Wilco has left that behind and so has Ryan Adams. Jay Farrar's newer stuff if more folky than country but I've listed all of these anyway.

Some other albums I've been listening to:

- Wilco -
"A.M."
"Being There"
"Mermaid Ave" with Billy Bragg
"Summerteeth"
"Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"
"A Ghost is Born"
- Son Volt -
"Straightaways"
"Wide Swing Tremolo"
- Uncle Tupelo -
"No Depression"
"Still Feel Gone"
"Anodyne"
- Whiskeytown -
"Faithless Street"
"Strangers Almanac"
"Pneumonia"
- Ryan Adams -
"Heartbreaker"
"Demolition"
"Love is Hell pt. 1"
"Love is Hell pt. 2"
- Jay Farrar -
"Sebastopol"
"Thirdshiftgrottoslack"
"Terroir Blues"
"Stone, Steel, and Bright Lights"
"Live EP"

Son Volt came about after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, which was a three piece band consisting of Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and Mike Heidorn. Soon after the breakup, Tweedy formed Wilco and Farrar started Son Volt. Currently Wilco is still releasing albums and touring while Son Volt seems to be on hiatus. Jay Farrar has now released three solo albums and has been touring.  Jay's also putting out a new Son Volt record but with a whole new lineup, I don't get it!
