The lineage of the Fae folk
First was the Tuatha de Danann or Thenann. Their goddess was Dana and they lived in the land of Erin were they conquered the ForBolgs. They lived in grassy hills or in "lands beneath the waters" . Tir na nOg( tyeer-nahn-ohgg) , The Land of Perpetual Youth, was their country. They were great masters of magic come said to come from the stars to teach about love and harmonious living and great warriors(both male and female). Their king was Ard Righ, whose palace was Tara. Many of these became known as the Fenian Heroes. Then the faery race dwindled down into the Dione Sidhe, sometimes one can catch a glimpse of them in their old form as a Heroic Faery and come only in times of human need. They branched off into two  main kinds: Warriors and The Romantic and peaceful People.
The Daoine Sidhe (deena shee) : The Fae of Ireland supposedly were fallen angels, too good for hell, were usually of human size, but it wasn't uncommon for them to be more than human stature and at times small in size. They lived underground, underwater, in green raths, under loughs (lakes), or in the sea. They had two distinct classifications: Heroic Faery and Medireview Fairy. Both greatly intercoursed with humans.
Fenian Heroes: Left half of lineages' first branching under sidhe tutelage. They differed from the Heroic's in that they were more war-torn and Heroics had a more relaxed and gluttonous stance, otherwise the same. The Heroic Faery: Were the aristocratic knights and ladies, hunters, and riders in  great processions. Arthur was said to be  a leader of this fairy race.
Medireview Faery: These were the Fae folk of Arthurian times who moved away from Ireland to England. It is from these we get the wizards, witches, and Morgan Le Fey of Avalon. They possessed great magick and sorcery. From these the fae folk beccame a variety of sizes, tiny and rustic, hideous and monsterous, and beautiful maidens with long flowing red hair and white skin. They enjoy chivalry and are the typical and commonly described 'classic' fairy of modern times. They were amorous of  mortals, expert in enchantment and glamour, generally beautiful but sometimes hideous.
Three main kinds of  medireview fae: Diminutive: all the tiny ones who liked to be called 'The Little People' (like the leprechan) who the spiritlike, literary and traditional fairy come from, Humanlike: (see Daoine sidhe) human stature, large or small, and The Ugly, Monsterous kind (like Hobgoblins and Brownies)
Elizabethan Fairy: These were the mischievious kind, the Nymphs and the small flower loving kind with gossamer wings that came to be the standerd symbol of the modern fairy we all know today(such as those in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream). They were the social fairy.
I will add more on the lineage of fae when found but for now let's turn to stories and poems of fae.
