The Oedipus Song
Bye Bye Mr. Oedipie

Long long time ago, we can still remember,
how that sunshine use to make us smile.
And we knew that if we had the chance,
We could make those sailboats dance.
And maybe they'd be happy for a while.

But the cove water made us shiver.
And at those storm clouds we did quiver.
We had to get our hats and coats,
We couldn't sail anymore boats.

We can't remember if we cried,
When we heard about the rising tide.
But something touched us deep inside,
The day the sunshine died.

(Chorus:)
So bye bye Mr. Oedipie
Sailed our sunfish to the river but the river was dry.
Them good old sailors eating jelly on rye,
Singing this'll be the day that we fly,
This'll be the day that we fly.

Did you ask the weaather man,
If we could take our trip as planned?
If Moonbeam tells you so...
Do you believe in Pantihose
That they will save your mortal soul
Lets kill all those jellyfish real slow.

They think that your in love with them
'Cause they saw you dancing while they swam
We all pulled on our hose
So they wouldn't sting our toes.

We were lonely teenage girlie scouts
we just couldn't get those sunfish out
But we knew that we had to shout
The day the sunshine died

Chorus

Now 15 years we've been on our own,
But oh this year how we have grown
But thats not how it use to be.
When the sailors sang to Old Moonbeam
In a boat they borrowed called John B.
Oh Moonbeam we just wanna sail the seas.
Oh and while Moonbeam was looking down,
We sailors stole her popice crown.
The campfire was adjourned,
We sailors will get our turn.

And while Squirrel read a book on knots,
Calamity said quick get the parts,
And we sang Barges in the dark
The day the Sunshine died

Chorus

Helter Skelter in our summer shelter,
No need for sunscreen, no summer swelter
40 mile winds and flying fast
And while we waited on the grass
Oedipus cried for the storm to pass
And Moonbeam in the covehouse in a cast

Now the river air was sweet perfume,
While Mosquitos buzzed a deadly tune
We all got up to dance
Oh but we never got the chance
'Cause canailors tried to take our boats
But we sailors will stay afloat
We knew that this was no joke
The day the sunshine died

Chorus

And there we were all in one place,
Brought John B back from space,
With no time left to start again
So come on sailors, be nimble
Sailors, be fast
Come on sailors raise that mast
Because the wind is the sailors only friend
And as we watched storm clouds form in the east
We all began to clench our teeth
No angel born in heck
Could keep the water off our deck
And when the sailors turned in for the night
To make sure their next day was just right
We saw the storm clouds laughing with delight
The day the sunshine died

Chorus

Good Job, sailors, don't be blue
Lets end with some happy news,
Then we can smile and turn away
We went down where the boats are stored
Where we'd had the sunshine years before
And memories there said the wind would come and play
And in Pine Ridge the sailors screamed,
The counselors smiled and we all dreamed
Not a word was spoken,
The sailboats are not broken
And the three people we admire most,
Calamity, Squirrel, and Oedipus toast
Will sail their boats to the coast
The day the sunshine died

Chorus

Chorus

THE END
