This historic site is Port Arthur, it is the most popular tourist attraction in Tasmania. The tourists come to look at the convict history, that is now big business in Australia. Port Arthur was a place for repeat offenders, and got a terrible reputation for being a harsh environment. The surprising aspect is that is it a beautiful area of Tasmania, and when we were there in January the weather was great as well. I especially enjoyed finding out if any Coles had been locked up there!

This delightful valley belongs to the Esk river that runs into the Tamar before flowing past the rock formations that you have seen in a previous photograph. I took this
picture whilst walking along the valley from my present home in West Launceston. Before one reaches this site there is a derelict hydro power station that used to make Launceston one of the first places in Australia to be
covered by electricity.

This last shot from Tasmania is the magical view from the mainland of the Freycinet National Park. The settlement on the peninsula is called Cole's bay, so it is an apt final memento to take away from our voyage around the lovely island of Tasmania. I have traveled around the world. and this is the first time that I have found town named after my surname. Perhaps they were convicts or free settlers, whatever their circumstances, they certainly picked a wonderful spot in which to establish their port!
