This is undoubtedly the crowning glory of the Inca, and one of the most amazing places in the world. The palace of Machu Pichu is not only architecturally brilliant, it is also in one of the most inaccessible and breathtaking of locations. If you can do the trail, it is good to miss the tourists. They get there by train at the same time, and leave at the same time.

Cusco holds many
architectural delights. If you look at this picture of a colonial Spanish tower closely, you will notice that the stonework is not regular throughout. This is because the Spanish have built over Inca workmanship. The stones at the bottom, up until the central recess, are Inca, the rest is Spanish.

This Inca wall is part of one of the original constructions that still adorn Cusco. The Inca had built a palace that apparently held thousands of virgins, who were taken from all areas of the empire. The virgins were housed in a huge complex, and if you inspect the wall, it is
possible to see the remains of
nipples carved out of the stone. The Spanish hacked off the phalluses!!
