Colombia is a dangerous country. Look at this cemetary in Medellin. Notice how many flowers there are, and how fresh they are. The drug trafficking and the war between the left wing revolutionaries and the American sponsored Government goes on today.

The remains of the colonial Spanish enterprise is most spectacularly visible in a town outside of
Bogotá. It is called Villa de Leyva, and it is a
wonderfully preserved colonial settlement. The
Spanish built churches, squares, monasteries and cobbled streets, that have weathered remarkably well in this location. Villa de Leyva is, however,
perhaps too much of a tourist trap.

One of the joys of
travelling and living in
Colombia, is the
multitude of parades and opportunities to
experience live music. Every village is proud of their own groups, who play a mixture of salsa, cumbia, vallenato and discordant local music. Dancing is often frenetic and compulsory.
