This sunset was taken whilst on a boat trip in southern Chile in the Pacific Ocean. I spent two days on a small ship, that serviced the tiny communities on this beautiful and
dramatic coast. Not a luxury cruise, but thoroughly worthwhile.

The town of Puerto Aisen, in the district of Aisen in southern Chile, was the nearest large town to where I caught the boat. Even though this port has not been developed for tourism, it still holds interest. The surrounding scenery is fascinating, and the town life lively. During the time that I stayed here, there was a rural festival. This consisted of music and a beauty contest in the square and a national theatrical performance.

This pristine site is the lago Riesgo, close to Puerto Aisen. It is a freshwater lake supplied by a feeder glacier. The area close to the lake is spectacular and almost completely devoid of human settlement. I spent a wonderful afternoon here, taking in the natural beauty and exploring the environs.
