In the early 1990s, the Japanese director, Hideki Takayama, produced a series of high quality, collaborative manga films. The mixture of epic stories with environmental and social issues, makes these cartoons suitable for all ages. The story pictured on the left is the Legend of the Demon Womb, Urotsukidoji II.

The Servant is an early 1960s film by Joseph Losey, featuring Dirk Bogarde, James Fox and Sarah Miles. The screenplay by Harold Pinter, means that the dialogue is intricate, intense and satisfying. The plot thickens as Bogarde is taken on to act as a man servant to the indolent aristocrat, Fox. The reversal of roles and insight into English society of the period is superb.

This film is the French piece Weekend, by Jean-Luc Godard. Jean-Luc was one of the 'agent provocateurs' that France produced during the late sixties, and this film reflects his revolutionary tendencies. A spiteful and revengeful couple go for a weekend to their parents, who they hope will die to leave them money. On the way they encounter cannibals, burning cars, sheep, Rousseau and a teacher of Mozart. This film is complex, exciting, infuriating and skillful. Watch out for the traffic jam long shot..
