| The main idea of this section is the idea of the challenges to our faith as a people whether Faith or faith. Many people our ages I think follow the belief system of an agnostic, which is somone who's undecided about the exsistence of a God. From this main heading, comes the idea of positive atheists abd practical atheists. Positive atheists makes a deliberate decison that God is not real, while practical atheists are those who claim to be apart of a religion but do not really participate. From these categories, comes the three different teachings from Nietzsche, Hobbes, and St. Igantius all somewhat varied in thier practices. Also, challenges to Faith come into our lives through advertisements as preached by John Kavanugh, S.J. These advertisments claim to take the place of real human emotions, and try and give us love, etc. from a product. Finally, the Readings Book goes on to show the reader how science and theology have evolved throughout the centuries to present day where they work together in a reflective unity. | ||||||||||||||||

| 1.The three main ideas from this section begain with the different teachings from the three philosophers mentioned in this section. First Nietzsche believed that there is no one set meaning to life and that it is what we make of it. He also believed that evenutally we will develope into a super-race, and he was a Nihilist. Finally, he believed that morality is relative to the person who is judging the issue at hand. Hobbes believes that peoples fate have already been decided and that they cannot have any meaning. Also, he said we are incapable to genuine selfishness, and in general had a very pessimistic view of human beings. Finally, Hobbes believed that the universe is intelligible and that morality is relative. Lastly was Ignatius who regarded all humans as having the same purpose in life since they were all created by God. Ignatius believed that both Hobbes and Nietzsche were right regarding human beings, as people are destined for greatness, and that we are unable to reach that goal by ourselves. Ignatius also would have found truth in both philosophers ideas on reason as Cahtolics do not worship reason but that God gave us a great mind and we can reason to many things in our world. Finally, in Ignatius' eyes morality is objective in that there is one standard law in which things are judged as right or wrong. 2. The second major theme in this book is the relationship of science throughout time. The first is a reflective unity which is like a child and his parents. This in history can be seen as the the Greeks who used the Gods to explin science essentially. The second section is reflective disunity like a teenager who defies his parents after regarding his parents decisions as wrong. This can be seen in time the Renaissance as new scientific findings seemed to disprove the church. Finally, the third section is a reflective unity like an adult who now regards his parents in a state of reverance. This is seen in history as a modern setting as today science and theology can work together to become closer to God. 3. The last major section is Kavanaugh's 5 answers to finding personalization in our lives. He says that we need to "recover solitude," recommite to our relationships, don't own a lot of material goods, to resiste socail and economic outside forces, and to learn from the wounded of the world. |

| One Question that I have regarding this section is how can I determine out of Hobbes, Igantius, and Nietzsche which philosophy best fits my beliefs and if none than who does? | ||||||||||||||||
| I think to make myself a better person from this study I can take the collective ideas of Nietzsche, Igantius, and Hobbes and effectively use them to overcome the obstacles in my way towards God, and use them as a stepping stone to a better intellectual understanding of what God can be for me and what he isn't. | ||||||||||||||||
