Ceremony and Reception Site - The Fairmont Banff Springs - A+

Amazing location, but very expensive - it was worth every penny. They went all out to accomodate me, with little things to make the day special - welcome baskets, strawberries and champagne in our room, a cute congratulations plate made up for the day after... Our wedding coordinator, Jody Cole, was totally excellent. She was very accommodating, and paid attention to the small details both before the wedding and the day of to ensure everything ran smoothly. She knew what my style was, and really tried to make sure they could do what I wanted. Great food!
My biggest complaint with the site is the nickel and dime style, where every little thing is charged for - parking, postage... Other than that, this is one of the most gorgeous places I think you can get married.

Rehearsal Dinner - Banff Ptarmigan Inn - A

Typical "resort" type of atmosphere - cute low-rise, cabin style building. Helpful during our tours, and a great menu selection, with lots of typical "Alberta" items, which we liked since everyone was from OOT. No extra charge for a private room. The manager was great to deal with - good communication.

Food was good - nice buffet selection

Wedding Party Attire

Bride - Vera Wang dress
Loved it! Quick shipping, no problems - exactly what I wanted. Excellent condition. Amazing designer dress at half the retail price. Would recommend them to any bride looking for a designer dress.

Bridesmaids - Dessy, ordered from Wedding Expressions - A
Chris was very helpful to deal with. Very quick replies to e-mails, and sent swatches promptly. Excellent communication and free shipping is a bonus! Price is very competitive to other online retailers, and they were willing to match the lowest quote I received. Shipped quickly - no problems at all.

Size chart is off by about one size too large - but I think that is a problem with Dessy, and not the store. Dessy dresses are very cute, and are reasonably priced with a great color selection.

Flower Girl - Nina, from New Renaissance - A
I wanted a Katina Katoo dress, but at $350 US retail, it was too pricey! Nina came highly recommended. She gets booked up quickly - I booked around 9-10 months in advance. I always communicated with her by e-mail, and this worked well. the work was incredible - her attention to detail was amazing. Her work is amazing, but she does run behind schedule - the delivery date was one month after what I had been given on the contract. But it was done on time for the wedding, so I'm happy.

Groom and groomsmen - Moores - A-
Very good prices for tuxes! Reasonable selection of styles and colors. Probably the biggest complaint is that they don't actually carry the tux styles in the store - you order out of a catalog. (We ended up trying on tuxes at another store to get an idea of fit, since FI didn't like the idea of buying without trying the styles on).
Good choice for wedding parties where everyone lives across the country - they have many locations so you can get measured locally, and all your measurements get put in the computer under the party file, and you can arrange tux pick-up and drop-off at any location.

I heard horror stories about their sixzing, but of the 7 we ordered from them, only one of them was mis-sized, and they corrected it before the wedding.

Photographer - Patti MacPherson, from Highland Photo - A+

Very personable. She was the only Banff photographer we clicked with - really friendly and she was very flexible in customizing her package to what we wanted, and was one of the only photographers who was willing to mix film types in shooting our wedding. (Most told us it was too much work to do both 35mm and medium format).

We loved working with her - she was super organized and we got a ton of shots done... Just got our proofs back and they're excellent! Great photojournalistic style.

We also had an Knottie looking to start a wedding photography business who also covered our wedding, Susan Hydzik (Knottie name: "Redraspberry"). She was very nice to work with and took a ton of digital pictures for us. Overall I'm happy with her photos as well.

Florist - Tracy Warwick, from Events for Less - C-

DO NOT use this vendor! I booked her after getting a few quotes, and a glowing recommendation from a friend. She's very pleasant in person, but very unreliable. It took months to get a contract in my hands, and even then, it was very vague. She is slow to respond to phone calls and e-mails. I have written to the Better Business Bureau now that the wedding is over.

She did all our flowers and decorations for both the ceremony and reception. Her delivery was very late - things got to Banff just 1 hours before the wedding... we were all very nervous. The bouts and corsages were well done, and the bouquets were nice. Some of the callas weren't in as good as condition as I would like, but not too noticeable unless you're up close.

HUGE problems with the reception setup. She messed up both the cake and the head table setup, including forgetting the lights nad fabric draping on the cake table, and not arranging the vases as agreed upon. She refused to let our families do their setup part while she was there, and took off before anyone noticed the errors, so it was too late to fix them. Not pleased...

Her prices are good however, but I would NOT recommend using her at all.

Hair and Makeup

Pedicure - Banff Gates Mountain Lodge and Spa - A

Nice service, reasonable price.

Manicure - Body Concepts - A

Nice service, reasonable price

Hair and Makeup - Stephanie, from the Mount Royal Hair Company - A+
Reasonable pricing - $150 for trial and day-of hair and makeup. They were a bit unprofessional with the mix-up in my hair trial, where they double booked me with another bride, with no apology at all. However, the trial itself was excellent. Stephanie is incredibly talented.

For the day-of, her work was amazing! She fixed the things that I didn't like at the trial, and my hair looked good in all the pics so far - it held up the whole day, even with the crazy mountain wind. HIGHLY recommended!

Musicians - Duo Rouge - B-/C+

Lovely music, but HUGE screwups, including not clueing into the cues from our officiant, even with the program in front of them. There were slight delays in the starting of the songs, and the bridal party proceeded with no music at all! I'm not too happy with how they handled that. When they did play, the music was nice though, but I thought they should be able to respond to what was going on better than they did.

Engagement Ring and Bands - Tiffany & Co. - A

Well, what can I say - I am a Tiffany's girl. I love their stuff and just going into the store. No problems at all. We went to both the New York Fifth Avenue and the Maui Wailea location and received excellent service in both, especially in Hawaii. Cathy was unbelievably helpful. She ensured the styles and sizes we needed were shipped in on time for when we were there.

Invitations

These were my big DIY project for the wedding and took forever!

Paper Presentation (for pocketfolds)
This was the best price for 5x7 metallic pocketfolds that I could find - great price and quick shipping.

Paper and More (for cardstock)
Limited selection (basic cardstocks only - not huge variety of shades), but excellent prices and quick shipping.

Budget Printing - Edmonton, AB
No problems - one of the few printers in the city that could do thermography, and their price was similar to others with a 2 day turnover time.

Honeymoon

Dolphin Hellas in Greece, travel agent: Uli Perschau

The majority of our Greece HM was booked though this company - wonderful! It is so nice to deal with someone local who can give feedback on hotels. Their information package is very comprehensive, and their prices are excellent. Wide variety of accomodations to choose from, and they booked our inter-island flights as well.
Speaking of which, DO NOT USE Olympic Airways while in Greece. They are the worst airline I have ever flown (and I travel a lot)... we missed Rhodes entirely because of their repeated flight delays and cancellations for "technical difficulties".
