Comments On This Week's Charts

After last week being such a busy week, things have slowed down somewhat on the charts.  The entire top 4 remain right where they are this week, including Jakatta who holds on for a fifth consecutive week.  If they can remain at number one for two more weeks, it will be the longest chart run of the year thus far.

Dirty Vegas again hold at number two while Tori Amos and Shania Twian, both strong competitors, hold in their own spots.  As there are no new songs on the horizon, I would say that Jakatta’s chances of staying at the top are good.

U2 make one of the biggest leaps in Oz Top 40 history, by moving up 34 spots to number 5 with Electrical Storm.  Now, big leaps aren’t anything new, but this is probably the biggest leap of the entire year.  The reason for the leap is that I reviewed their latest hits collection and finally got a chance to listen to the fabulous William Orbit mix of the song (as compared to the crappier Radio 1 version I had on mp3).

Three different songs make downwards leaps this week big enough to earn biggest faller awards.  Auqalung, T.A.T.U. and Kelly Clarkson all move back 11 spots this week.  Now honestly, that’s not really that bad of a leap.  Usually my biggest fallers fall back at least 15 or more spots.  But seeing as this has been a quiet week, it doesn’t surprise me.

With Jennifer Paige FINALLY going off the charts after 16 weeks, Dirty Vegas finally take charge of the longevity spot.  They have been on the charts now for 15 weeks and don’t seem to be going anywhere.  Four more weeks and they will have the longest chart run of the year.  Will it happen?  Well, there’s only one way to find out ... come back next week!

New On The Charts This Week

07

Did Anyone

Approach You?

A-ha

This is A-ha’s third chart single of the year.  Forever Not Yours hit number 10 in May and Lifelines recently hit number 5 (and is still on the charts, but suffering).  This one took me a few listens to get into, but now I am totally hooked.  Wow!  What a great song.  This one will hopefully be even bigger than their previous two hits.

16

Beautiful

Christina Aguilera

I remember reading somewhere that Linda Perry (producer of this song and producer of Mizundastood by Pink) said this song was going to earn Christina a Grammy.  Now, I don’t know if I would go that far, but this song really IS beautiful.  A review I read of the album claimed that every song on it, other than first single Dirrty, was amazing.  I am going to get my hands on the album soon to see if I agree with that, but if the rest of the album is as good as this song, I will be pleased.

30

Stole

Kelly Rowland

It seems that it is going to be a battle of the DC members in 2003, as Kelly Rowland and Beyonce Knowles will be duking it out to see who is the more popular solo artist.  Personally, I think that Kelly will come out on top for the simple reason that people will tend to like her more and most people think of Beyonce as the diva already.  Anyway this song took a bit to get into my head, but now I like it the more I hear it.  Should do well on here.

40

California

Wave

I discovered this one thanks to a fellow chart club member.  I think I remember reading that this one is pretty old (I think it might be from 2001), but nevertheless it is still a good rock/pop song that should be checked out.  I don’t think it’s going to do all that well on here, but you never know!
