COMMENTSON THISWEEKSCHARTS
Different week, same story: Another week, another new number one. I have just been finding so much great new music lately, that my turnover at the top has been rediculous. In the past four weeks we have had four different number ones. It's beginning to look a lot like the UK charts!
With 6 new entries and a re-entry, there has been a lot of action on the charts this week! Many songs have been pushed in both directions, as I will tell you. Next week will hopefully be a lot calmer. This week, Allison Moyet makes this week's biggest move, up 11 to number 16 with her latest. Daniel Beddingfield makes this week's biggest plunge, down 20 to number 32.
Darren Hayes makes big news again this week, as Crush (1980 Me) reenters the chart at number 20. Since I have been listening to the mix of Strange Relationship on the Crush single, I have been hearing that song a lot too. There is no telling how many more times Darren will reenter the charts this year. This marks the 4th song to re-chart for him this year, the only ones not to being Insatiable and I Miss You , which just misses that top 40 this week and falls off.
Agnelli & Nelson are again this week's longevity champs. Everyda y has now been on the countdown for 16 weeks. I could have sworn it was going to fall of this week, but manages to hold on for another week at number 40. Who knows what the song has got left in it ... but if you haven't check it out by now .. you better do it quick!
NEWON THECHARTS
01 - YOU'LL NEVER BE ALONE - Anastacia
WOW! That's all I have to say about this one. I found the track on Radio & Records Adult Contemporary charts and downloaded it. Within about 2 listens I was hooked. This one sounds like it was plucked straight from and 80's movie soundtrack! What a great power ballad! This is Anastacia's first number one on the charts, and her 3rd offical charting single (the 4th being I'm Outta Love, which would have charted in 2000 if I had been doing my charts). One Day In Your Life hit the top 20 in May and Why'd You Lie To Me made the top 40 a month ago.
04 - WHAT'S YOUR FLAVA? - Craig David
This is the lead-off single from Craig's second album, and a good single it is. I only hope it is a hit here in the states. While techniquelly this is Craig's second chart hit (I'm pretty sure that Fill Me In hit the charts in 2001 for me), my favorite David song (and one that would have charted in 2000) by far is 7 Days . Anyway, while this is no 7 Days , it's still a great track, so go check it out.
05 - LIFELINES - A-ha
A second top 10 for A-ha this year, following Forever Not Yours , which hit number 10 back in May. This one is just as good as FNY , but is probably not going to get any higher. It's still definitely worth a listen though.
17 - WHEN I LOST YOU - Sarah Whatmore
Sarah was a contestant on UK's Pop Idol . This one took me a bit to get into, but now has finally sunken in. A great dance/pop track instead of the usual ballad we hear from Idol singers.
18 - WHAT YOU DO ABOUT ME - M2M
This one is currently a single in Asia and is M2M's third hit single this year following Everything which hit number 2 and Don't which hit number 8. This one is just as catchy and could possibly be M2M's third top 10 hit this year!
26 - DIE ANOTHER DAY - Madonna
Rounding out the debuts this week is Madonna. Die Another Day was finally leaked to radio this week and I eager downloaded it. It's pretty much along the same lines as the stuff on her Music album. While I like the song, I don't think it's commercial enough for it to be a big hit on my charts. When I pick up the single (yes there is a single! Kudos to Kelly Clarkson for reviving the form!), a remix could possibly help it out.
