Comments:

For the first time since 1998, a song has consecutively spent three different months atop the charts.  "It's Your Life" has no intentions of giving up the top spot and has now spent 6 weeks at the summit, including weeks in August, September, and now October.  The last time a song has ever managed to this was "Break Your Heart," by Natalie Merchant.  That song spent consecutive weeks at number one in October, November, and December of 1998.  By reaching the 6 week mark, "It's Your Life" now has the longest consecutive chart run of 2003, tying the longest chart runs of 2002 and 2001.  If the song can stay atop the charts for one more week, it will be in a tie for the 2nd longest running number one of all time along with "This Kiss" by Faith Hill.  As of now, I can say that the songs odds are pretty good.  There is a lot of competition, but not sure if any is strong enough.

Erasure make their return to the charts with a remake of their 1986 song, "Oh L'amour."  In it's original chart run, the song failed to even crack the UK top 75.  The only place the song was a hit on the national charts (it was a hit on the US dance charts) was in France.  Dollar remade the song in 1988 (?) and took it to the top 10 in the UK.  Hopefully this version will return Erasure to the top 10.  I have been dying to hear more than just snippets of the remixes of this song.  Finally, I saw the new video for the song (available at erasureinfo.com).  It is GREAT!  It incorporates a lot of their old videos and tour footage into a new video.  Because of this, I can finally chart the song, since I can now hear in full at least one remix.  Will this one get to number one?  Who knows?  Depends on how much I like the other remixes.

Other debuts this week come from Santana feat. Alex Band (of the Calling), Mandy Moore, Nelly Furtado, and Sarah McLachlan.  In other words, a BIG week for debuts.  When I first heard Santana's latest, I wasn't really all that impressed.  Finally, after repeated listenings, I can't get it out of my head!  This one should do well.  I am loving Mandy Moore's latest (from her new album "Coverage") more with every listen.  Nelly Furtado and Sarah McLachlan both make returns to the charts after absences.  Nelly Furtado was last on the chart earlier this year as a featured artist on Paul Oakenfold's "The Harder They Fall."  Before that it was last year's number one "Remember The Days (On The Radio)."  Sarah McLachlan hasn't been on the chart since "Angel," which charted back in 1998.  Five years later (and six years since her last album), Sarah is back with her latest.  Her sound hasn't changed, but hey .. I'm not complaining.  When I actually get the full song of "Fallen," it should do quite well.

Girl group Clea makes this week's biggest move, up 22 to number 16 with their debut single, "Download It."  Right behind them are Coldplay who move up 20 spots to repeak at number 17 with "The Scientist."  This song moved back up due to it's use in a pivotal scene of the new Alicia Silverstone show "Mis-match."  This is easily one of the best new shows of the season.  If you haven't seen it, go check it out!  Finally, falling back 15 spots and earning this week's biggest faller award is Simply Red.  They have a new one out, and it will probably chart as soon as I hear it.

Ok, time's up for now.  Life is busy this week (and every week!!!).  That's all for this week ... until next week ....
