COMMENTS ON THIS WEEKS CHARTS

Well the biggest story for me this week was the fun I had this weekend. I saw the Cher/Cyndi Lauper at the Mark of the Quads on Friday night. It was a great show! I was espeically pleased with Cyndi's performance. Cher was more spectacle than show, but it was still good. Needless to say, I will be buying Cyndi's new album soon. Her latest, Shine, debuts this week on the bubbling under charts.

Well, Dirty Vegas was about to hold onto the top spot for a seventh week until just yesterday. I finally got around to downloading Amber by 311. I have heard this song on and off and even saw the video a few times thoughout the summer, but never got into it enough to download it. Well, I finally got to doing so, and I have to say that song is pretty good! Well, obviously as it debuts this week at number one. This one might be one of those songs that debuts high and then falls rapidly, so Dirty Vegas might be back on top before we know it!

311 lead a wave of 8 debuts this week! Of the 8 songs we said goodbye to, one of them was in the top 20 still. J Lo just barely fell off this week, and I was rather shocked when I discovered that I had did this, but oh well, this one was definitely one of those songs of summer and I have moved on from that season and am ready for fall!

Jennifer Paige continues to move up the charts, as Stranded is at number three this week. I am pretty sure that it's downhill from here, but it's pretty amazing that a song I didn't like at all at first has got to number 3! Liberty X now have two songs in the top 10 and actually push themselves back a spot. Got To Have Your Love (which debuted this week at number 2 in the UK) continues to rise to number 5, and their former UK hit falls back a spot to number 7 after peaking last week at number 6. Only a handfull of acts have managed to have two top 10 hits simutaneously this year including The Doves and Darren Hayes, so yeah for Liberty X!

After a big plunge last week, Tiffany manages to hold on for one more week at number 40. She is still the longevity champ at 16 weeks. After she falls off next week, that award will go to Agnelli & Nelson who have been on the charts for 13 weeks with Everyday, and show no signs of leaving, though they do take a slight plunge this week.

This week's biggest mover is Play, who move back up 15 spots to number 16 with Us Against The World. This week's biggest faller is Shakira who falls back 18 spots to number 39.

NEW ON THE CHARTS

01 - AMBER - 311
As I said before, I am actually a little late charting this, but I finally downloaded it this week, and really do like the song. Time will only tell if it stays on top. I'm pretty sure this is their debut, although I am a fan of Down and All Mixed Up.

11 - DIVING - 4 Strings
Well, this might as well be called Take Me Away Into The Night 2 because it sounds exactly the same, only with different chords underneath. I need to see if there is a vocal version of this. Anyway, this is the follow up to the aformentioned song, which hit the top 5 in May. It's a good song, but it's newness will probably wear off soon.

14 - I MISS YOU - Darren Hayes
Well look who's back?? Now that there is confirmation of this being the next single in Scandinavia and the US (yeah!!), I can chart it. The only problem with this is that I have been hearing this song almost on a daily basis since March. So I don't know if its' going to do very well because of that. This is what I call the "album" curse. If I actually buy and artist's album, their subsequent singles are not going to do very well because I hear them on the album too much! If he did hit the top 10, it would be his 4th top 10. This is also his 5th top 20 hit for the year, following Insatiable (#1 (4)), Strange Relationship (#16), Falling At Your Feet (#6), and Crush (1980 Me) (#3).

31 - THE TIDE IS HIGH (GET THE FEELING) - Atomic Kitten
This current UK number one has taken a bit of time to grow on me for the simple fact that all of their covers have sounded JUST like this. But it's a good song nonetheless. Go take a listen!

35 - GOOD FRIEND - Nine Days
Absolutely (Story of a Girl) was so overplayed I hated it. Their follow up, If I Am, was a good song though. Anyway, their latest won't go anywhere in the US and their careers are pretty much over commercially, but this is a nice song :)~

36 - EVERYDAY - Bon Jovi
Hmmm ... this one isn't quite as catchy as It's My Life, but this is a good song anyway. Go take a listen.

37 - PUT THE NEEDLE ON IT - Dannii Minogue
Follwing up her number one hit with Riva, Who Do You Love Now, is Dannii Minogue. This is pretty catchy and might even do well here ... only time will tell!

38 - SO EASY (B-SIDE TO REMIND ME) - R�yksopp
This might actually be a double A-side, but I will just call it a B-Side. This new B-Side rule has worked well for Darren Hayes and Kylie Minogue this year, so let's hope R�yksopp can benefit from it too! This one more of an instrumental track than Remind Me. Good song though!
